Roy Clark Walton Jr.

Roy Clark Walton Jr., 79, of Carthage, Illinois, died Tuesday, May 19, 2026, near
Alexandria, Missouri.
He was born December 7, 1946, in Keokuk, Iowa, to Roy Clark Walton Sr. and Alvena
Klingler. He served in the U.S. Army from 1970 to 1972, spending most of that time in
Germany.
On November 19, 2005, Roy married Cinda Bohrer in Peoria, Arizona, and she
survives. He worked as a truck driver and also helped with farming during planting and
harvest. Rodney said Roy especially enjoyed running the large combine. He collected
farm equipment toys, loved his cats, and treasured time with his Carthage Senior High
School Class of 1964 friends. He often spoke of class dinners and the good times they
shared at restaurants around Carthage. In his free time, he enjoyed relaxing and
watching TV.
Survivors include his wife, Cinda Walton; sons Rodney Walton and Roy Clark Walton III;
daughter Katrina Burch; stepson Rick Selbach; stepdaughters Julie Selbach, Christy
Taylor, and Debbie Riches; grandchildren Cassandra Watts, Michael Walton, Preston
Walton, Sara Wynn, Ava Walton, Gracie Walton, Noah Walton, Taylor Selbach, Morgan
Selbach, McKenna Selbach, Kaeleigh Taylor, and Alexander Hessler; and great-
grandchildren Madison Britt, Eli Shallcross, Kaden Shallcross, Brailynn Walton, Dreydon
Clark, Ebony Watts, and Misty Watts.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Rodney Walton will notify family and

Theresa A. Mason, 69, of Hamilton, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 22, 2026, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Theresa was born on September 12, 1956, in Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of Paul A. and Mary L. (Wilkens) Amann. On February 11, 2002, she married John Mason at the Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada.
She is survived by her husband, John, one son, Kendall (Emily) Bush of Rochester Hills, MI, one grandson, Zachary; five siblings, Phil (Janet) Amann of Hamilton, Jim (Debra) Amann of Hamilton, Susan (Greg) Bolton of Hamilton, Mark (Becky) Amann of Pittsfield, IL, and Sarah (Jeff) Oberman of Fenton, MO; several cousins, and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Janey Wolgemuth, her nephew, Josh Heitman, and her beloved dog Uno.
Theresa was a wonderful spouse and partner to John, mom to Kendall, and loved and treated Emily like a daughter of her own. She cherished spending time with and spoiling her grandson Zac. Theresa will be remembered for dedicating her life to being around and caring for her large family and group of friends. Theresa was a very stylish and sociable person, enjoyed the company of her friends, and loved to travel with her husband, friends, and family. She earned the nickname “Lucky Charm” because she would often win charity raffles with her friends.
Theresa helped John start Angelini's Ristorante Italiano in Keokuk and became a dedicated contributor to the success of the restaurant over the decades.
Theresa was a member of Church of All Saints Catholic parish in Keokuk, the Keokuk Yacht Club, and a Lifetime Member at the Southside Boat Club in Keokuk. She was an avid supporter of the Hamilton Park District and loved the Hamilton Swimming Pool. Being a very charitable person, Theresa also supported St. Jude’s, United Way, the Keokuk Area Chamber of Commerce, the Warsaw Lion’s Club, and Deer Run Golf Course in Hamilton.
The Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM, Thursday, May 28, at Printy Funeral Home in Hamilton, where the family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM that evening. A parish rosary will  be recited at 7:00 PM at the funeral home.

Gary Lynn Salyers, 78, of Carthage, Illinois, formerly of Leland, Illinois, passed away on
Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at Graham Hospital in Canton, Illinois.
Gary was born on July 11, 1947, in Kahoka, Missouri, the son of James and Lorine
(Young) Salyers. On June 3, 1967, he was united in marriage to the love of his life
Claudia Jeanne Spencer. She preceded him in death in 2020.
Gary was of the Methodist faith and a member of the Hancock County Gun Club. He
was employed as a plant supervisor in Illinois, Iowa and Indiana, starting his career at
Keokuk Die Casting in 1968 and retiring from West Irving Die Cast in 2009. Always a
hard worker, Gary returned to work part-time through retirement at American Machining.
He would be found relaxing at the river with a fishing pole in his hands and a friend by
his side or playing cards until the wee hours of the morning. He was an avid Chicago
Cubs and WWE wrestling fan. Gary’s biggest joy in life was spoiling and loving his
grandchildren and would say a little prayer every night for his family.
Gary is survived by his daughter Jeannie (Brad) Gilpin of Keokuk; five grandchildren:
Destiney and Kaylee Gilpin, and Brittin, Brooke and Sean Hoekema; his great-
grandchild Clark Gilpin; two sisters: Gail Westercamp of Bonaparte, Iowa, and Sharon
(Eric) Sloat of Carthage; his chihuahuas Diego and Julio; and many nieces, nephews
and cousins.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Claudia; his daughter Kelly Hoekema;
his sister Delores “Arlene” Goss; and three brothers: James, Charles and Marvin
Salyers.
Gary’s life will be celebrated with a graveside service at 12:30 pm on Friday, May 29,
2026, at Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 10 am to
12 pm on Friday, May 29, at Printy Funeral Home in Hamilton.

Keith Lee McMillen, 79, of Carthage, IL, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2026,
surrounded by his family at Memorial Hospital in Carthage.
A memorial service will be held at 11am on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at the First
Christian Church in Carthage with burial to follow at Sutter-Salem Cemetery in Sutter,
IL. A visitation will be held prior to the service starting at 9am. Memorials may be made

Helen Louise Curtis, 96, of Carthage, Il, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at 3:10
AM at Wesley Village in Macomb, Il.
Helen Louise Hopkins Curtis was born on February 16, 1930, in Sterling, Illinois, to Vern
Harold Hopkins and Erma Viola (Hoak) Hopkins. She grew up on the family farm, where
from a young age she helped her brothers, Vernon and Donald, with chores and field
work after her father’s accident. These early experiences fostered her lifelong love of
horses, farm animals, and country living. She also enjoyed caring for and playing with
her sister, Ruth. Helen attended a one-room schoolhouse, a considerable walk from her
home, and graduated from Prophetstown High School in 1947.
Following high school, Helen worked in the office of a local grain elevator. In 1948, the
family purchased a farm and moved to Hancock County, where Helen met Robert “Bob”
Claude Curtis, who lived nearby. They married on February 3, 1952, and were blessed
with three children: Robert Alan, Ann Louise, and Lorraine Kay (Lori).
During Bob’s service in the Army, Helen worked at the REA in Carthage and at
Carthage College diner. After his return, they farmed the Curtis family farm
together until their son married, after which they moved to Bob’s parents’ home in
Bentley, where they spent the remainder of their married life. Helen cherished her years
on the farm, raising her children and enjoying countless family adventures. Through all
of this she managed to become quite the poet. She enjoyed writing poetry and had
many poems published in newspapers and magazines.
Helen was deeply involved in her community throughout her life. She served as a 4-H
leader for many years and was an FHA chapter mother at Carthage High School. She
participated in jury duty often, worked in voter registration for Harmony Township, and
contributed to the Carthage Extension Center’s Building and Grounds Committee,
including organizing fundraising for an addition to the center.
A longtime member of Smyrna Primitive Baptist Church in Bentley, Helen contributed in
many capacities over the years. She was a devoted mother to Alan, Ann, and Lori
(Marty), a loving grandmother to Tim (Amy) Curtis, Kim (Curtis) (Brett) Kniess, Brianna
Husband, Audra (Husband) (Sam) McQuaid, and Danielle Husband, and a cherished
great-grandmother to Colton, Bethany, Sam, Ben, and Judson Curtis, as well as Sterling
and Kaia McQuaid, and Zoe and Gemma Kniess. She was also a loving aunt to
numerous nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, her siblings and their spouses, and her
beloved great-nephew Richie Hopkins, with whom she shared a special bond. Her
memory will live on through the love, joy, and devotion she shared with her family and

community.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Printy Funeral
Home in Carthage with burial following at Moss Ridge Cemetery. A visitation will be held

Barbara Elaine Hanks, 82, of Carthage, Illinois, passed away at 4:06 p.m. Saturday, May 16, 2026 at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa.

 

Barb was born August 21, 1943 in LaHarpe, Illinois, the daughter of Vilas L. and Doris Jean (Pence) Scanlan. On December 27, 1986 she married Herman Hanks at the Burnside Christian Church in Burnside, Illinois. 

 

Barb was a 1961 graduate of Nauvoo-Colusa High School. Following high school, she was employed as secretary at Carthage College in Carthage, Illinois, before a 28 year secretarial career at the Dallas City Elementary and later the Dallas City High School. Lastly, she was employed in Human Resources at Methode in Carthage until her retirement in 2009. 

 

Mrs. Hanks enjoyed tending to her flowers, bird watching and especially the time spent with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Burnside Christian Church. 

 

She is survived by her husband, Herman, of Carthage; one son: Benjamin (Jennifer) Boyer of Burlington, Iowa, three step-sons: Michael (Cynthia) Hanks of Carthage, Charles (Kristie) Hanks of Cairo, Georgia and Frank Hanks of Carthage; ten grandchildren: Mitchell (Aleetha) Hanks, Brandon Hanks, Allison (Avery) Jacobs, Benjamin (Emma) Hanks, Austin Hanks, Brent Boyer, Avrey (Griffin Humphreys) Boyer, Christella Boyer, Maisson Boyer and Aubree Hanks; three great-grandchildren; one brother: Eugene (Mary Jo) Scanlan of Burnside; one sister: Janice Scanlan of Carthage and several nieces and nephews. 

 

She was preceded in death by her parents and one son: Brent Boyer.

Margaret Mary (McDowell) Finton

Margaret Mary (McDowell) Finton, 79, of Warsaw, Illinois lost her battle with ALS on
May 15, 2026, in Manhattan, Illinois, surrounded by her family and friends. She was
born on October 20, 1946, in Keokuk, Iowa, to Edward and Dorothy (Sinclair) McDowell.
After graduating from Cardinal Strich High School in 1964, Margaret (Margie) worked at
several local businesses- Betty Gays, Sheller-Globe, Deckers, Todd Uniform, and finally
Methode. During her retirement years she was a dedicated bus aide for Warsaw
Elementary School.
On August 12, 1983, Margie married Craig Finton at Seven Falls in Nauvoo, Illinois.
Though Craig preceded her in death in 2008, the love they shared remained a
cornerstone of her life.
Margie loved life- whether cruising around town in her 1973 Corvette listening to music,
watching the New York Yankees, or enjoying her favorite treat: a cheeseburger and
cherry coke. However, her greatest joy came from her family, especially her
grandchildren, whom she loved deeply and cherished spending time with.
Those who knew Margie understood what true friendship meant. She had a gift for
kindness and was a loyal friend to anyone who needed one. Her legacy lives on in the
hearts of her family and all whose lives she touched. Margie was a member of Sacred
Heart Catholic Church.
Margie is survived by her son Robert Wendell (Jessie) Frank, III, of Blandinsville, IL; her
daughter Christina Katherine (Billie) Bavery of Manhattan, IL; two granddaughters:
Katherine and Madeline Bavery; two sisters: Kathleen Farfel and Dorothy (Jim) Wallace;
her sister-in-law and close friend Martha (Les) Beeler; and her beloved dog Nicky. Other
survivors include several nephews and extended family.
Margie is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Craig; her brother Edward
McDowell; and her in-laws Esther and Dan Finton.
A memorial service will be held at 5:30 pm on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Printy Funeral
Home in Warsaw, with burial to follow at Oakland Cemetery in Warsaw. Visitation will be
held at the funeral home from 3 to 5:30 pm on Thursday directly before the service.

Darlene Clippert

1923-2026

  Darlene Clippert 103, of Keokuk, Iowa passed away, Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at her home. 

     She was born March 19, 1923, the daughter of Varnum and Carrie Hicks Krumm. On December 29, 1954 she was united in marriage to Keith “Monk” Clippert in Keokuk.  He preceded her in death on October 17, 2014. 

     Darlene had been employed as a bookkeeper for Decker Manufacturing for almost forty-years until her retirement.  

     Darlene bowled most of her life, finally calling it quits in her 90’s.  She loved going to the State Tournaments all over Iowa.  They would all make is a girl’s weekend out of it and there would be a lot of adventures and fun over the years. Darlene always enjoyed a good game of Canasta and she played to win.  The Canasta girls were like family.  They celebrated many birthday lunches and Christmas dinners together through the years. Darlene had played with some of them for over fifty years.  She was known to some as a card shark and no one wanted to throw at her.  Darlene also loved traveling, gardening and tending to her gardens and flower beds.  Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.

     She is survived by her son, Kent Clippert of Keokuk; two daughters, Joni Knee (Richard) of Shelbyville, MO, and Lori Hagey (Buck) of Washington, IL; six grandchildren, Jonah Bigelow, Kent Clippert, Anthony Clippert, Jill Seabold, Mindy Jones, and Carrie Crawford; nine great?grandchildren, Charollotte, Kenneth, Daneil, Madison, Allie, Maverick, Kole, Hank, and Bradie; five great?great?grandchildren, Roman, Keith, Bleyn, Ryker, and Maddyx; a sister, Betty Jane Chas of Boca Raton, FL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

     Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Donna Foulkes; a granddaughter, Tonya Bigelow; a daughter?in?law, June Clippert; and one brother, Varnum Krumm, Jr.

     Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Vigen Funeral Home in Keokuk, with Mary Jo Riesberg officiating. Burial will follow in the Keokuk National Cemetery.

     Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, with the family meeting with friends at that time.

Drucilla “Dru” Cook

1949-2026

   Drucilla “Dru” Ann Cook, 76, of Keokuk, passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at River Hills Village in Keokuk.

     She was born August 17, 1949, in Keokuk, the daughter of Jack Edward and Vera Mae Post Ricker. Dru graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1967.

     On December 22, 1973, Dru was united in marriage to Jay Frank Cook at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk. He preceded her in death on April 13, 2020.

     Dru was employed at Hy?Vee as a clerk for thirty?three years, retiring in 2014.

     She was active in the Women’s International Bowling Congress (WIBC) and served as secretary at the Southside Boat Club. Dru had a lifelong love of bowling and spent countless hours participating in leagues, tournaments, and cheering on fellow bowlers. Bowling was more than a hobby, it was something that brought her great joy and many lasting friendships.

     Dru also loved quilting, embroidery, and sewing and took pride in the time and care she put into everything she created. She enjoyed playing card games, trying her luck gambling, and spending time laughing and visiting with family and friends.

     She was also known for her many tattoos, each one holding a special meaning and reflecting the people, memories, and moments that were important in her life. She was an avid sports fan who faithfully followed the St. Louis Cardinals and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Dru especially loved supporting her grandchildren in all of their activities and rarely missed the opportunity to attend their sporting events or dance recitals.    

     Dru is survived by her son, Ryan (Margaret) Cook; her daughter, Cara (Brad) Johnson; her grandchildren, Jake Cook (Amy Griffin), Megan Cook (Dorian Stice), Rylee Johnson (Tallon Blaise), and Jaelyn Profeta (Nicholas), all of Keokuk; and a great-grandson, Brewer Profeta. She is also survived by her siblings, Denice (Mike) Samuels, Dawn (Jeff) Marlin, David “Patrick” Ricker, Penny (Craig) Williams, Alan (Janet) Hoambreacker, and Steve (Nancy) Hoambrecker; her sister?in?law, Cindy Hoewing; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles; and close friends, Cindy Nickel, Barb Gates, and Debbie Suter.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father, Don Hoambreacker and her sister, Diana Hester.

     A Gathering of Remembrance will be held Sunday, May 17, from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m.  at the Elks Lodge BPOE #106 in Keokuk. A celebration of life will be held at 2:30 p.m. with Cathie Courtois officiating. After the service friends are invited to stay for a time of food and fellowship with the family.

Drew J. Lewis

1996-2026

 

Drew J. Lewis, 30, of Keokuk, IA, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in Fort Madison, IA.

     He was born January 13, 1996, in Fort Madison, IA, the son of Donald Lewis Jr. and Amanda Briscoe Lewis. He graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 2014.

     On October 5, 2019, Drew married the love of his life, Mikelle Weber, in Montrose, IA. She survives.

     Other survivors include his two sons, Hudson and Asher; his parents, Donald Lewis Jr. and Amanda Lewis of Keokuk; his in-laws, Kimberly “Kim” and Dennis Kirchner, and David and Binky Weber; his grandparents, Lyndle and Roberta Bitting, Gertrude Lewis and Robin Briscoe; his grandmother-in-law, Lonna Diveney; grandfather-in-law, David Weber, Sr.; his brother-in-law, Darion Weber (Jessica); a nephew, Abel Lewis; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and countless friends.

     He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Donald Lewis, Sr. and John Briscoe; two uncles, Jason Bitting and Jamey Briscoe; his grandfather-in-law, Michael Diveney; and his grandmother-in-law, Sharon Weber.

     Drew had been employed by Keokuk Water Works as a Water Treatment Operator since May 21, 2014.

     Drew was always fixing and repairing things and making improvements around the home for his family. He usually had a project in the works and took pride in caring for those he loved. He enjoyed baseball, especially following the St. Louis Cardinals, and he kept up with the latest football and sports news. He also enjoyed golfing and looked forward to any chance he had to get out on the course. Boating was another favorite pastime, and he loved spending time on the river whenever he could.

     Drew shared an especially close bond with his parents and spent as much time with them as he could. He was truly the center of their world, and the love they shared as a family was evident to everyone who knew them. Most of all, Drew treasured the time he spent with his boys, who were the center of his world.          

     A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Keokuk.

     According to his wishes, there will be no visitation.

     A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Jane “Janie” Ann Sartory

1954-2026

Jane “Janie” Ann Sartory, 71 of Keokuk, IA passed away Monday, May 4, 2026 at her home. 

     She was born to Leo and Bette Ewers McNally on June 1, 1954 in Keokuk, IA.  She graduated from Cardinal Stritch with the class of 1972. 

     On September 2, 1978 Janie was united in marriage to Francis John “Frank” Sartory at St. Peter’s Catholic Church.  He preceded her in death on May 17, 2020.  

     Throughout her working years, Janie was employed by a number of local businesses, including Floral Expressions, Fairfield Inn, and Tri State Medical Group.

     She was a longtime member of All Saints Catholic Church in Keokuk.

    Janie’s greatest loves were her family and friends as well as all her basset hounds over the years. She loved spending time with them all. She had many wonderful memories of times spent at her parent’s house, whether it was in the garage working the “hip-flip” or in the yard having a barbeque. Rumor has it, there may have been a garden hose sprayed through the kitchen door. Janie was always fortunate that those times usually included a private Mass in the living room. She was an avid crafter, often having sales in her family’s homes and still had a basement full of new and unfinished projects. Janie had a passion for cookbooks, and it showed in her wonderful family dinners and desserts that she shared with many.  When it came to planning a family vacation, she always chose a Disney trip. Janie knew all the secrets of getting around all the parks on campus and how to get in and out of the lines quickly. As for a quick trip, it was nothing for Janie to hop in the car and head down the highway simply for a quick meal. Janie was blessed with a great group of long-lasting friends and family members, many who had been by her side from the very beginning and continued to check up on her until her final days.

     She is survived by one daughter, Andrea Sartory (Adam) of Keokuk, one son, David Sartory (Alvin and Cleo) of Keokuk and six grandchildren, Jacob Sartory, Jonah Sartory, Stevie Harrison, Lakin Bailey, Laurlai Bailey and Lydia Bailey.  She is also survived by four sisters-in-law, Nanette Wollbrink (Kent), Vicki Sartory, Barb McNally and Mary Kay McNally. 

     In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, David McNally and Steve McNally, her uncle, William “Bill” Ewers and one brother-in-law, Vick Sartory.

     There will be no services at this time.

Susan Gayle Wray Dresser

 

  Susan Gayle Wray Dresser, 85 of Keokuk, IA passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at River Hills Village in Keokuk. 

     She was born January 21, 1941 in Keokuk, IA the daughter of James and Ethelyn Wray. 

     Sue married Harry Dresser, III on September 12, 1959 in Montrose, IA.  Together they built a life centered around family, dairy farming and traveling when time allowed.

     She was a devoted mother to Tim (Rona) Dresser, Mike (Ruth) Dresser, and Lynn Dresser.  Sue was also a proud grandmother to Brent, Matt (Cheryl), Rachel (Greg), and Dayle, and cherished her great-grandchildren, Jaiden, Tucker, and Camren.  She is also survived by her siblings, Jae Powell, Nancy Beesley, and Tom Wray. 

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry and brother, Jim Wray.

    Sue was an athlete at heart throughout her entire life.  One of her greatest joys was ice skating through the creeks of Montrose and neighborhood ponds.

    Sue was known for delicious home cooked meals and gladly shared with others.  No one ever left her table hungry, and dessert was simply expected after every meal.  Summers were spent working the garden and freezing and canning the produce all while helping own and operate Bonny Crest Dairy Farm alongside her family. 

     She treasured time spent hosting birthdays, holidays, and the family’s annual wiener roast and hayride-gatherings that created lifelong memories.  One of Sue’s most cherished traditions was lighting the Dresser Christmas Star each year on her friend’s birthday, a tradition that spanned more than fifty years and continues today with her grandson proudly carrying it on.

     Sue and Harry also shared a love for travel, especially motorcycle trips and dairy tours, enjoying adventure together throughout the years.

    Sue will be remembered for her strong work ethic, generous spirit, and unwavering love for her family, and the traditions she created that will continue for generations.

     Fulfilling her wishes there will be no visitation or services.

Terry Fayne Tinsley

Terry Fayne Tinsley, 78, of Nauvoo, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at
the VA Medical Center in Iowa City, Iowa.
Terry was born on May 22, 1947, in Aurora, Missouri, the son of Dorsey F. and Bernice
(Behrman) Tinsley. On July 5, 1967, he was united in marriage to Teresa Schmitz at the
St. Joseph Catholic Church in Springfield, Illinois. She survives.
Terry was of the Catholic faith and a member of the American Legion Post #41 and the
American Legion Riders in Keokuk. He faithfully served his country in the United States
Navy for six years during the Vietnam era, serving on the USS Holland, a nuclear
submarine tender. He went on to complete another eleven years in the National Guard.
Terry held many jobs throughout his career, his final being a metal polisher for antiques.
His free time was spent riding his beloved Harley-Davidson motorcycles and showing off
his Model A delivery vehicle and 1946 Hudson truck hotrod at local car shows.
Terry is survived by his wife Teresa Tinsley of Nauvoo; his son Tim (Penny) Tinsley of
Warsaw; three grandchildren: Jeffrey Tinsley of Quincy, Illinois, Mariah (Dylan)
Kalebaugh of Fowler, Illinois, and Cheyenne (Marcy) Tinsley Hamilton; two great-
grandchildren: Hope and Bearon of Fowler; his sister Randie Glassford of Quincy; and
several nieces and nephews.
Terry is preceded in death by his parents, his son Terry James Tinsley and his sister
Sherrie Kimble.
Funeral services will be held at 12 pm (Noon) on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Printy
Funeral Home in Hamilton, with burial to follow at Nauvoo City Cemetery in Nauvoo,
Illinois. Military honors at the graveside will be provided by the American Legion Post
#41 and the United States Navy. Visitation will be held at Printy Funeral Home in
Hamilton on Saturday, May 9, from 10 am to noon directly before the service.

Michael Dean “Butch” Moore

Michael “Butch” Dean Moore passed away at 12:43am in Roseville Nursing Home, May
3rd, 2026. He was born on June 15th, 1948, to Bill Moore and Alleyne Smith in their
home by Crooked Creek in Carthage, IL.
Michael and Melissa Moore were together for 39 years (I guess we finally got things
right) and together raised their 4 children, Jade Rigney (Kathy), Robbie Rigney, Amy
Deters (Joseph) and our baby Brett Moore (Heather)
Michael was an avid outdoorsman year-round, especially after he learned how fun ice
fishing was and was on the river or a lake every weekend. Hunting also created another
love…gun collecting. He hunted whatever the season offered. He was also avid trap
shooter and shared this passion with his granddaughter Lily. He also enjoyed cold beers
at Hoing’s with his 4:30 buddies, Eldon McKinley, Jim Smart and Bill Tatum under his
shade tree at home.
Michael is survived by his wife, Melissa Moore of Carthage and 5 children, Michael
Lionberger of LaHarpe, Jade Rigney of Carthage, Robbie Rigney of Kansas City, MO,
Amy Deters of Loraine and Brett Moore of LaHarpe. He was preceded in death by both
parents and 3 siblings, Beulah Lane, Ron Shipman and Touge (Wayne) Shipman and
in-laws, Richard and Nadeane Weller.
Family will have a celebration of life friends at family at a later date. Printy Funeral

Donnie Andrew Rutledge

Donnie Andrew Rutledge, 60, of Wayland, MO, passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at his home in Wayland, MO.

 

Donnie was born in Macomb, IL, on December 1, 1965. He was the son of Tommy Lee and Delores (Fewkes) Rutledge. Donnie went on to serve in the US Army, proudly serving his country. On July 19, 2003, he was united in marriage to Laurie Wall in Pigeon Forge, TN.

 

Donnie was a man of many colors, both in his work and his life. He spent most of his career working as a painter. He enjoyed classic cars and car shows, often spending weekends under the sun admiring classic beauties. A proud gun enthusiast, he cherished sharing this hobby with his fellow enthusiasts. With a fishing rod in hand, he loved being out on the water, appreciating the simpler things in life. Traveling was another passion that Donnie held dear. Whether exploring new destinations or revisiting familiar favorites, he embraced the adventure of discovering new places and cultures. Above all, Donnie's heart belonged to his family, especially his grandkids, whom he adored and lived for.

 

Known for his great sense of humor, Donnie could light up a room with his infectious laughter and witty remarks. He found joy in bringing smiles to the faces of those around him, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met.

 

Donnie is survived by his wife, Laurie Rutledge; his children, Maegan Rutledge, Kurtis Rutledge, Carrie Hammer, and Dalton Rutledge; his grandchildren, Madison Richbark, Dresden Rutledge, Breyden Rutledge, Nova Hickle, and Phoenix Rutledge; his father, Richard Maxson; his mother-in-law, Barbara Wall; his siblings, T.L. Rutledge, Deanna Twaddle, and Roger Wall.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Cheyenne Rutledge, and his father-in-law, John Wall.

 

A funeral service will held at 11 am on Friday, May 8, 2026, at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with burial following at Elvaston Cemetery with military rites. Donna Sue Levengood, 68, of Hamilton, passed away Sunday, May 3,
2026, at Memorial Hospital in Carthage.
Cremation rites will be accorded. Printy Funeral Home of Hamilton is in

James Egley

James was born on October 29, 1931 to Harry and Fern (Pepple) Egley at their
farmhouse in Warsaw, IL. James passed on April 29, 2026 at his home in Warsaw, IL
surrounded by his family.
Jim leaves behind his siblings Sherill and Byron. Jim was survived by his children, Rod
and Robin, and Jess and Jeff. Grandchildren: Jerry (deceased), Mason and Janice,
Jeremy and Kim, Nate and Kristi, Ashley, and Haley and Nick. Great Grandchildren:
Evan, Jazmin, Olivia, Abby, Billy, Destiny, Alex, Nya, AJ, Kali, Summer, Landon and
Dakota.
Jim was an Airman First Classman serving from April 3, 1951 to March 26, 1954, during
the Koren Conflict. He was assigned to a B-29 refueler, refueling planes over the Koren
Straight. He had a lifelong commitment to the Warsaw VFW Post 9802. He was a post
commander for over 40 years and nightly patron for over 50 years.
The family believes his pride and joy was carrying on and expanding the Egley Family
Farms. He farmed alongside his dad growing up. He inherited 1/3 rd of the families 80-
acre farm with Sherill and Byron. Working with his son and grandchildren, the farming
operation now consists of 475 acres. In 2023, the farm his grandpa and grandma
bought in 1905 was recognized as an Illinois Department of Agriculture Centennial
Farm, which stands for over 100 years in the same family. Currently the 5 th and 6 th Egley
generation lives on the farm. Less than 1% of farms in America reach the 6 th generation.
Above all, his family and friends were his greatest joy in life.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Warsaw VFW Post 9802 and the Great
River Honor Flight.

Home in Warsaw with burial to follow in Oakland Cemetery in Warsaw with military rites

Charles Homer “Charlie” Bair III

 

Charlie Bair could walk into any room, sit down next to a complete stranger, and within a few minutes be talking to a new friend. He was curious, genuinely interested in people and ideas, history, how things work, and why people are the way they are. He loved to talk with anyone and everyone about everything.
Charlie was also a great, if not always trustworthy, storyteller. Of course his stories always began in the neighborhood of the truth, but his mind and his soul loved to wander, and his stories did too. The point of his stories was never simply the facts; rather, the point was to find some meaning, to make a connection, to share in a little bit of something real.
Charlie earned a BBA from the University of Cincinnati and an MBA from Xavier, then spent the better part of four decades doing work that required a specific combination of nerve and imagination: walking into institutions that were broken and making them whole. As President and CEO of hospitals across Ohio - in Greenfield, Canton, Hillsboro, and Troy - he turned insolvencies into surpluses, merged struggling community hospitals into what became one of the most comprehensive rural health systems in the country, and developed programs in psychiatric care, rehabilitation, and chronic illness that served people who had almost nowhere else to turn. He founded one of the only successful hospital-owned health insurance companies in the United States. The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations recognized his contributions with a special commendation from their Board of Governors. 
Accomplishments that are really quite impressive. But for Charlie it was all much simpler than that, for he was committed, always, to assuring that ordinary people in ordinary towns got the care that they deserved and might not otherwise have had.
At a moment in life and a career when most people would have coasted, Charlie did something that was, on reflection, completely in character: he started over. He moved to Carthage, IL, taught ethics at Carl Sandburg College, worked as a community and economic development educator through the University of Illinois Extension, and served as Executive Director of the Western Illinois Economic Development Authority, doing the often unglamorous day-to-day work of keeping a region economically viable.
Charlie, of course, didn’t make the move to Carthage only for a new career; he was also following his wife, Ada, as she became CEO of Memorial Hospital and Hancock County Senior & Childcare Services.
Charlie supported Ada’s work not as an afterthought but as a priority, and he was proud of her and the work she does for their community in the particular way of someone who understands exactly what that job requires. And just as he did in the early years of their relationship, Charlie continued to write Ada letters - real ones, on paper, with impeccable penmanship and even better pens; the kind of letters that said plainly what we often spend a lifetime only implying. Charlie did not take love for granted.
And then, with a vision of creating a space for community and joy, Charlie opened Lillys’s Frozen Yogurt & Fudge in downtown Carthage, named in honor of Ada’s mom Lillian, and begun as a way to contribute meaningfully to Food for Thoughts. That vision for Lilly’s grew year-by-year, month-by-month, and sometimes week-by-week, until it encompassed a whole block, with pop-up Christmas and gift shops, a garden with plans for a topiary, a putt-putt golf course and enough games to fill a boardwalk. But that was the thing about Charlie: he was always onto the next idea. Living with the Bair meant keeping up with a
mind that never really settled; there was always a new project forming, a new angle on an old problem, something he wanted to try or build or fix or understand. He was a tinkerer in the best sense: not restless out of dissatisfaction, but restless out of genuine delight in what might be possible. He could look at a neglected building, a struggling block, a piece of equipment that everyone else had written off, a story that was too committed to the facts, and see not what it was but what it could be. That quality of attention - patient, imaginative, unhurried - was something animals seemed to recognize in him too; they had a way of finding him and staying close.

If you ask people about Charlie they will usually note the same three things: his humor, his kindness, and his ability to meet people exactly where they are. He never talked past you, he was present and engaged, genuinely glad to be in a conversation. He made every community he was part of better. Not because it
was a goal, but because that’s what happened when Charlie Bair showed up.
Charlie passed away at home in the early hours of Sunday, April 26, 2026, with Ada by his side. He was 83 years old and lived, by all accounts, a very good life.
Charlie Bair is survived by his wife, Ada Bair; his sister, Barbara Heighton and her husband Dr. Doug Heighton and his beloved children and their families: Ben Bair, his wife Evelyn, and their children Ellie and Portia; Jon Rowe, his wife Ina, and their children Samantha, Jonathan, and McKenzie; Alisha Zimmerman and her husband Jayson Edge, and their children Michael, Marcus, and Marisa; and Andrea Zimmerman and her husband Alan Van Wyk as well as extended family members. He was also the proud great-grandfather of Michael and Brittany. He is survived, too, by the countless people across the
communities he gave himself to.

Valeata Monroe

Valeata Amanda Monroe, 96, of Hamilton, IL, passed on to heaven at 1:45PM Thursday,
April 30, 2026, at Heritage House in Carthage, IL
She was born April 30, 1930, in Tioga, IL the daughter of Franklin and Edith Kammer
Rampley. She married Henry Monroe, Sept 6, 1947, at the Christian Church in Keokuk.
She is survived by seven children, Ron (Shelia) Monroe and Gary Monroe, both of Hamilton,
Debbie (Jim) Amann of Hamilton, Dona Stansbery of Sugar Hill, GA, Doug Monroe of Buford, GA, Kendall Monroe of Lilburn, GA and Brent Monroe of Hamilton, IL;
13 Grandchildren, Angie (Dan) Gracey, Mike Kayvan, Tarah Amann, Matt Amann, Cancy Monroe- Lee, Darren Monroe, Dustin (Michelle) Monroe, Mandy (John) Humphry, Corrine Childress, David Monroe, Heather Barnes, Kara Wellington and Keith Holman Monroe; several great grandchildren; three siblings, survived by Judy Lance of Peoria, and several nieces and nephews 
Valeata was preceded in death by her parents, husband Henry Monroe, in 2014 and a daughter,
Diana Monroe, in 1974. Valeata attended West Point High School in Illinois.
Henry and Valeata built Monarosa Mobilehome Park, in Hamilton, 1967, and remained
owner / operator until 2022. In 1985 Charter Builders contracted Monroe specialty for a 1st in story job in Austin, TX. When the job was complete, they asked Valeata & Henry to relocate to Key West, FL where they worked and lived it up for several years. Valeata was of Protestant Faith Valeata loved being married to Henry. They had a special marriage of 67 years. Valeata loved hard work and building businesses alongside Henry. More than anything she loved to help anyone that needed a hand up. Offering love, friendship, work, a place to stay, gave rides anywhere & a meal.
Valeata was always there for her kids and family. We will always remember her love and hard work.

James L. Egley

Joan Lee Williams

Joan Lee Williams, 87, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at Haven of
Champaign, Illinois.
Joan was born on November 23, 1938, in Grass Valley, California, the daughter of
Pharis Robert and Margery (Odgers) DeLaMare. She graduated from Mariposa High
School in California in 1956, and went on to work various places in her younger years.
Some of her most notable jobs throughout her career include the Dairy Queen in
Carthage, Illinois, Hawker Energy in Warrensburg, Missouri, and the fabric department
at Hobby Lobby in Centennial, Colorado.
Joan was a woman of many hobbies and spent her days gardening, sewing, quilting
and baking. Her quilts were gifts given to every baby in the family, the total amount
numbering in the hundreds throughout her lifetime. Her baking was untouchable,
especially her homemade cookies, pies and bread, the recipe which her family
continues to make and enjoy to this day. Joan was the family historian, documenting the
family tree and passing on the knowledge to future generations. She had a deep love
for Yosemite National Park, stemming from her father’s years of dedicated service.
Joan is survived by her sons Rick (Brenda) Williams of Mahomet, Illinois; and Bill
(Brenda) Williams from Littleton, Colorado; seven grandchildren: Amanda (Kyle)
Szugye, Ryan (Christal) Williams, Emily (Dan) Riewerts, Wesley (Michelle) Williams,
Zachary Williams, Ashley (Patrick) Swanson and Haley Williams; nine great-
grandchildren; two sisters: Jennie (Ed) Verley and Margaret “Maggie” (Bob) Adams; and
her brother John (Sherry) DeLaMare. Other survivors include several nieces and
nephews.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents, her son Charlie “Chuck” Williams; and her
brother Tom DeLaMare.
A memorial service with burial at Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage will be held at a
later date.

 Richard Earl Loeffler, 74, of Keokuk, IA, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2026, at his home.    

     He was born on January 18, 1952, in Lee County, IA.

     Richard was employed for many years with Pizza Hut and Bridgeway. He truly enjoyed working and had a gift for conversation, he never met a stranger and was known for his friendly and pleasant nature.

     Richard found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved fishing, listening to 1980s music and classic country, and was an avid fan of John Wayne. More than anything, Richard delighted in receiving gifts, which always brought him great excitement and happiness.

     He is survived by his family, Robert and Peggy Helenthal, Karry, Owen, Jacob, and Phoenix.   

     He is also survived by his dedicated caretakers, Tina Newlan, Randy Hudson, Chad Knotts, and Roger Bryant, along with the many staff members who provided care and companionship to Richard over the years.

     A Gathering of Remembrance will be from 5 -7 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk.

Joan Lee Williams, 87, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at Haven of

Bonita “Bonnie” Beth Jinkens Underwood

 

  Bonita “Bonnie” Beth (Jinkens) Underwood, 70, of Keokuk, Iowa, passed away on April 19, 2026.

     Bonnie was born on October 12, 1955, in Keokuk, the daughter of Robert E. and Aileen L. (McNally) Jinkens.

      Bonnie had fond memories of living in Oakland, CA and attending Piedmont Avenue Elementary School before her family moved to Keokuk.

     Bonnie attended Keokuk High School, obtaining her General Education Degree, and earned an Associate of Arts degree from Southeastern Community College. She continued her education at the University of Iowa before graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Western Illinois University.

     On March 30, 1985, Bonnie was united in marriage to Steve Underwood in Keokuk. He survives.

     Over the years, Bonnie held a variety of roles. She was employed by several area businesses. She served as a board member and chairperson on the City of Keokuk Human Relations Committee. She was a former member of the Lee County Democratic Central Committee. In 2003, she became a certified substitute teacher and greatly enjoyed her time in the classroom. Above all, Bonnie was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who devoted much of her life to caring for her family. She was a constant source of guidance, comfort, and love.

     Bonnie had a deep love for nature and gardening. Her home was surrounded by beautiful flowers and trees, and she found joy in photographing nature and sharing its beauty with others. Bonnie had a strong appreciation for music and singing was a source of joy for her. She attended many concerts over the years, even getting the chance to meet a few big name artists. She also loved cooking and always had new recipes to try.

      Her presence, humor, smile, and support will be deeply missed by those who knew her.

      She is survived by her four children, Nick Oren of Fallbrook, CA, Jeff Underwood of Keokuk, Brandon Underwood (Amy) of Ankeny, IA, and Lyndsey Brady (Jon) of Shawnee, KS; seven grandsons, Tyler, Alex, Andrew, Camden and Brecken Underwood and Asher and Ethan Oren; and her siblings Karen Hickey (Mike), Brenda Coursey (Steve), Dennis Jinkens, Cyndy Ames (Roy), and Julie McNitt (Tim); Parents-in-law, Dale and Mary Ann Underwood of Keokuk, and numerous nieces and nephews.

      She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Jerry Jinkens.

      A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 2, 2026 at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Keokuk, IA with Pastor David Turner officiating. A procession to the cemetery will leave the funeral home at 10:45 a.m.

      Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Friday, May 1, 2026 at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with the family meeting with friends at that time.

Cathy C. Bostic

 

Cathy Christine Bostic, 75, of Keokuk, IA died suddenly Friday, April 24, 2026 at her home.

     Cathy was born on October 13, 1950 in Macomb, IL. The daughter of Calvin and Shirley Stump Friday.

     She had been employed at Methode in Carthage, Illinois until it closed.

     Cathy is survived by two daughters, Wendy Crenshaw of Keokuk and Amy Walker (Dee) of Plymouth, IL, two sons, Jason Bostic (Valerie) of Augusta, IL and Chad Bostic (Caitlin) of Plymouth, IL. One sister, Brenda Toland (Ed) of Industry, IL, thirteen grandchildren, Brittany Walker (Andy), Marissa Deeter (CJ), Jesse Walker, Derrick Bostic (Rachel), Hunter Crenshaw (Alexis), Cheyenne Crenshaw, Reed Bostic (Dayna), Dante Martin (Chloe), Aspyn Bostic (Devon), Nyasia Martin, Tony Sprinkle, Griffin Schoonover, Nora Bostic and several great grandchildren.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Dennis Friday and one grandson, Dylan Walker.

     According to her wishes there will be no services or visitation.
