David A. Tuck

1961-2026

     David Tuck, 65 of Keokuk passed away Friday, August 14, 2026 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa.

     He was born April 24, 1961 in Keokuk the son of Dallas Richard and Jacquelyn Schiver Tuck.  He graduated from Keokuk High School with the class of 1979.  He later achieved his associates degree at Southeastern Community College. 

     He is survived by his twin brother, Daniel Tuck of Keokuk; two nieces, Kaylee Tuck and Jacquie Tuck; a nephew, Justin Tuck; several great-nieces and great-nephews; an aunt, Laurie Boatman; an uncle, Rick Schiver; and numerous cousins.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Nathan Tuck.

     Dave was formerly employed as a prison guard at a Texas correctional facility for twenty years until his retirement. 

      He enjoyed photography, painting and woodworking.  He enjoyed a good book and spent many hours reading.

Most of all Dave loved hanging around with his family and especially enjoyed being with his nieces and nephew.    

     A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk, Iowa with Pastor Tim Greenwald officiating. A celebration of life will be held following the graveside service at the Elks Lodge #106 in Keokuk.

Lloyd L. “Stub” Holmes

1936-2026

 Stub Holmes, 90, of Montrose, IA passed away Sunday, August 16, 2026 at his home in Montrose.

     He was born June 22, 1936, in Argyle, IA the son of Lloyd and Opal Holmes. Stub married his first wife, Marjorie, and they had three children, Lori, Gary, and David. Stub and Marjorie later divorced. Stub married Myrna McCarty on July 16, 1977.

     Stub is survived by his brother, Larry Holmes (Julie) of Montrose, IA; his sister, Janet Hopp (Roger) of Fargo, ND; his daughter, Lori Pollpeter (Alan) of Ft. Madison, IA; his son, Gary Holmes of Paducah, KY; his stepson, Jerry McCarty (Janice) of Primrose, IA; and his stepson-in-law, Tim LeMatty (Deb) of Montrose, IA.

     He is also survived by six grandchildren, Nichalus Ellison (Nicole), Jeremy McCarty (April), Jaime Mueller (Jason), Jared McCarty (Selah), Timmy LeMatty, and Tammy Robbins (Scott); twenty great-grandchildren, Ava Ellison, Kade Ellison, Ariel LeMatty Sanders (Jason), Timothy LeMatty III (Erika), Ty LeMatty, Dalton Robbins, Cole Robbins (Chey), Cody McCarty (Carrie), Canyon McCarty (Kayla), Maverick McCarty (Emily), Julianna McCarty, Jacob McCarty, Skylar Guthrie, Jaylen Brodry, Josie Mueller, Jayden Mueller, Jaxson Mueller, Grace McCarty, Emry McCarty, and Wesley McCarty; and three great-great-granddaughters, Abigail, Ember, and Harper.

     He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrna, his parents, brother-in-law Roger Hopp, brother-in-law Mel Ewing, sister-in-law Janet Ewing, his son David, and stepdaughter, Deb LeMatty.

     Stub’s passions were farming and raising animals like hogs, miniature ponies, and horses. Early in his marriage to Myrna they traveled and camped all over the country. He enjoyed camping and trail riding with friends and relatives during trips in Iowa and to Missouri and Illinois.

     He started working at 16 years of age at the Montrose (IA) elevator, where he drove trucks. Due to his experience and expertise, he was frequently requested by farmers to spray their fields. Later in life he worked for Agrineed and the Auwaerter and Newberry farms.

     According to his wishes, he was cremated, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Ronald Gene Garrelts, 88, of Bowen, IL, formerly of New Lenox, IL, and born in Carthage, IL, is resting in the arms of Jesus. Ronald passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at The Cottages of New Lenox, IL. 

Ronald was born on September 30, 1937, in Carthage, IL. He was the son of John and  Vera (Paben) Garrelts. Ronald was a loving father and grandfather “papa,” retiring from
Lincoln-Way Community High School after 37 years of teaching biology, driving the bus, also former adjunct faculty at Prairie State College, who shared his knowledge and wisdom with everyone he encountered. He loved life and found joy in the simple things, especially the time he spent after retiring to his Paradise Farm in Bowen, IL. He loved his farm where he raised cattle, his dog Sparkie and horse Midas. He was a man of
kindness, immense strength, hard work, and love; his presence brought warmth to everyone around him. We are grateful for the beautiful life he lived and the countless
memories he leaves behind. His humor, love, life lessons, and example will remain with us always. He is deeply missed and forever loved. Thank you to everyone that continues to pray for our family. Heaven has gained a beautiful soul.

Ronald is survived by his daughters, Heidi (Matt) Stukel, and Heather (Adam Nigro)
Garrelts; his grandchildren, Matthew Stukel, Andrew Stukel, Madeline Stukel, Crue Nigro, Lincoln Nigro, Wesson Nigro, and Tenley Nigro; his sister, Barb (Byron) Humke,
as well as his nieces, nephew, and many cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his son, Michael Garrelts, and his late first wife, Sharon Garrelts, and second wife, Dianne Garrelts.

A funeral service will be held at 11am on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Carthage with burial to follow at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery just south of
Carthage. Visitation will be held prior to the service starting at 10am. Memorials may be made out to Hearts of Hancock Humane Society. Printy Funeral Home is handling
arrangements.

Andrew “Andy” Leffler

Andrew “Andy” Leffler, 69, of Keokuk, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, August 15,
2026, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa.
Andy was born on April 2, 1957, at the naval base in Corona, California, the son of
George Floyd Leffler and Margaret Ann “Peggy” (Baxter) Leffler Mullins. He graduated
from Warsaw High School in 1975. On June 14, 2009, he was united in marriage to
Sarah Christine “Chris” Leffler in Yachats, Oregon. She survives.
Andy was a jack of all trades, working many jobs throughout his career. His life was
defined by his love of God, guns, country and family. He loved his children and
grandchildren with his whole heart. Andy was his daughter Kristie’s angel. He enjoyed
relaxing with a fishing pole in his hands, tinkering on lawn mowers and riding his
motorcycle. His ornery and gregarious personality combined with a dry sense of humor
made Andy a beloved fixture of his family and community. He was a grizzly bear on the
outside and a teddy bear on the inside. Andy proudly served his country in the United
States Air Force.
Andy is survived by his wife Sarah Christine “Chris” Leffler of Keokuk; six children: Eric
Leffler of Keokuk, Kristie (Josiah) O’Neil of Keokuk, Aimee Nelson of Warsaw, James
Patterson of Keokuk, Michael Davis (Significant other Aubrey Cosgrove) of Keokuk, and
Nikki (Shawn) Stark of Keokuk; his sister Beth Ann (Thomas) Dierkes of Arrington,
Tennessee; his step-brother Larry Mullins of Newtown, Missouri; twelve grandchildren;
five great-grandchildren; and many other family members.
Andy is preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at the Church of
New Beginnings in Keokuk. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 to 11 am on
Saturday, August 22, directly before the service.

Jaqueline “Jackie” E. Scott

Jaqueline “Jackie” E. Scott, a beloved mother, daughter, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, teacher, caregiver, mentor, and servant to her community, passed away peacefully at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City on Friday, August 14, 2026, at the age of seventy-nine. Her life was defined by a love for people, a passion for children, a heart for service, and an unwavering belief that every person had something meaningful to offer the world.

Jackie was united in marriage to Joseph Scott in Keokuk on June 17, 1967, a partnership built on love, family, and shared commitment to faith, service, and community.

For 31 years, Jackie devoted herself to education, pouring her heart into her students and helping shape countless young lives. She was honored as Teacher of the Year for the 1994–1995 school year, a recognition that reflected not only her dedication in the classroom, but the extraordinary difference she made in the lives of the children she taught.

Her work with children extended far beyond the classroom. She was the founder of the Hope Center, New Bethel Church of Keokuk, Inertia Boys and Girls Center, Kids Zone, and the Gabriel Cadets, as well as the reorganization of Boys Scout Troop 43 and Cub Scout Pack 47. She was deeply involved with numerous other programs and organizations that gave children opportunities to learn, grow, and discover their own potential. She believed deeply in investing in the next generation and dedicated her life to creating spaces where children could thrive.

Jackie’s passion for learning and service also took her beyond her own community. Through Foreign Exchange programs, Taste of Africa, Project Christmas, and Backpacking Across the Curriculum, she helped open doors to new cultures, experiences, and possibilities. She believed that education was not confined to four walls—it was something to be experienced, shared, and lived.

She had a servant’s heart and was never afraid to roll up her sleeves when people were hurting. She participated in relief efforts in Hawaii, Mississippi, Washington, D.C., and South Dakota, offering her time, compassion, and hands to those in need. Her life was a living example of what it means to serve others.

She was also a woman of many talents and endeavors. She was a co-owner of J & S Recycling and the Inertia Boys & Girls Center, Inc.

She gave her time and energy to projects and causes that strengthened her community. She was involved in the publication of We Shall Overcome, among many other efforts that reflected her commitment to making the world a better place.

But while her accomplishments were many, the titles that mattered most to Jackie were much more personal: Mother. Daughter. Grandmother. Great-Grandmother. Sister. Caregiver. Teacher. Friend.

To her family, she was so much more than everything she accomplished. She was a source of wisdom, strength, comfort, laughter, and unconditional love. She was the person who showed up, the person who cared, and the person who could be counted on. Her love reached far beyond her immediate family, touching students, coworkers, friends, neighbors, and countless people whose lives were changed simply because she chose to care.

She is survived by her loving husband, Joseph Scott; her sons, Joseph “Jay” (Sarah) Scott and Travis (Milisa Johnson) Scott; her cherished grandchildren, Jasmine, Quinten, Josiah, Jadyn, Tyson, Paris, and Myles; eight siblings: Raymond Bradley of New York, Katherine (Ronnie) Braggs of Keokuk, Sondra Hickman of Rock Island, Illinois, Mona (Edward) Fletcher of Atlanta, Georgia, Debra (Sam) Letcher of Keokuk, Raymond (Chasity) Bradley of Hamilton, IL, Nona (Arthur) Allen of Atlanta, Georgia, and Keith (Tina) Galbreath of Keokuk; nine great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews all of whom will continue to carry her love, values, and legacy forward.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Deloras Bradley, Wallace Galbreath and Step-father Ray Bradley, her great-grandchildren in infancy, Bentley and Hadley, her brother Robert Bradley, along with other beloved family members who welcomed her home.

Her legacy cannot be measured by awards, years of service, or the number of programs she participated in. Her greatest legacy is found in the people she loved, the children she taught, the communities she served, and the lives she made better simply by being in them.

She leaves behind a family who will carry her love and lessons forward, along with countless former students, friends, colleagues, and community members who will forever remember the difference she made.

Though her earthly work is finished, the seeds she planted will continue to grow through every life she touched.

Her life was a gift. Her love was a legacy. And she will be deeply, forever missed.

A homegoing celebration will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, August 21, 2026, at New Bethel Church in Keokuk, with burial to follow at Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2026, from 4 to 7 pm at DeJong-Printy Funeral Home in Keokuk.

Memorials may be made to the family for a memorial scholarship fund.

Walter Eugene Jobe

1927-2026

Walter E. Jobe 99, of Keokuk, IA passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at Southeast Iowa Regional Healthcare Center in Fort Madison, IA.

     He was born February 6, 1927 in Keokuk, IA the son of Joseph Harvey and Anna Katherine McDonald Jobe. 

     Walter was united in marriage to Viola Mae Brown in Kahoka, MO.  To this union four sons were born, Richard Jobe, James Jobe, Michael Jobe and Baby Jobe.  Viola passed away in 1994, in Midland, TX where she is buried.  He later married Norma White on September 3, 2016.  She survives.     

     Other survivors include one son, Richard (Pam) Jobe of Houston, TX, two step daughters, Terry (Glenn) Snyder of Buffalo, MN and Debbie (Johnny) Thompson of Keokuk, IA, a step daughter-in-law, Linda White of Carthage, IL, three grandchildren, Shanna Jobe, Melissa Koffman and Lindy Jobe, nine step grandchildren and several step great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

     Walter was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Jim, Joe, Paul and George, five sisters, Nina, Ida, Phyllis, Betty and Minni, three sons, Mike, James and Baby Jobe and one stepson, Mike White.

     Walter always said there were two things he wanted to do when he was young.  Drive a truck and join the Navy.  He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944 and served aboard a destroyer named USS Earnest Small DD838 and was discharged in 1947 at the rank, Gunner Mate 3rd Class (GM3/c).  

     Walter was a faithful member of the Bel Air Baptist Church which he loved.  Walter started his truck driving career in 1955 with Inter Coast Jobber and Brokers of Los Angeles, CA and Lamesa, TX when they dissolved partnership.  Walter bought his first truck and started Wildcat Trucking, Hauling mostly delivering produce.       

      A graveside service with military rites will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, August 17 at the Keokuk National Cemetery with Pastor Mike McMillen officiating. 

     Memorials may be made to the Bel Air Baptist Church.

George Michael “Mike” Gronewold
George Michael “Mike” Gronewold, 65, of Carthage, passed away Saturday, August 8, 2026, at the family
farm.

Mike was born March 25, 1961, the son of George, Jr. and Carol (O’Connell) Gronewold, in Carthage,
Illinois. He attended Carthage High School, graduating in 1979, and later attended Culver-Stockton
College. After high school, he began working for Dowdall Farms. In 1995, he began his thirty-one-year
career with Nicor Gas Company, where he was still employed. He also continued farming and raising cattle,
a hobby he tremendously enjoyed.
Whether spending time with his wife, attending their daughters’ events, or watching his grandchildren, Mike
was a man who devoted his life to his family and serving others. He gave of himself unconditionally, always
willing to show up, lend a hand, and support the people he loved. His love for his family was evident in the
way he lived each day, and his selfless spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Mike
loved Jesus and was an active member of The Crossing Church.

Mike is survived by his wife, Marla, of Carthage; daughters, Randi LeAnn (Zach) Summers of Keokuk,
Mary Danielle (Jordan) White of West Point, Lauren Michael Gronewold of Carthage, and Michaela Ann
(Kennedy) Gooding of Carthage; grandchildren, Harrison, Addison, and Ellison Summers, Sophia White,
Nash Neff, and Adley, Grace, and Reese Gooding; his mother, Carol Gronewold of Carthage; three
siblings, Joe (Connie) Gronewold and Jeanne Gronewold, both of Quincy, and Andy (Lori) Gronewold of
Carthage; aunts, Gerri Harrison of Carthage and Jane O’Connell of Quincy; and several nieces and
nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Gronewold, Jr.; brother, John Gronewold; his in-laws,
Junior and Mary Patrick; and uncles, Ed Harrison and Mike O’Connell.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Printy Funeral Home, with burial to
follow at Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery near Basco, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 4:00–8:00
p.m. Friday evening at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage.

Ernestene Deatrick

1930-2026

 Ernestene Deatrick, 96, of Kahoka, passed away Monday, August 10, 2026, at the Clark County Nursing Home.

     She was born March 15, 1930, in her family home in Labelle, Missouri, the daughter of Ernest and Maggie Beard Tripp. Ernestene graduated from Wyaconda High School with the Class of 1947.    

     On November 29, 1947, she was united in marriage to George Deatrick in Memphis, Missouri. He preceded her in death on November 30, 1983, just one day after they celebrated thirty-six years of marriage.

     Ernestene worked as a telephone operator in Neeper and then worked at Sheller-Globe for twenty-three years before her retirement. She was a woman of faith and dedicated her time to teaching Sunday school at Ballard Church. She found great joy in her family and cherished the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, and extended family. Her family was the center of her life, and she will be lovingly remembered for the love and care she gave to those around her.

     Ernestene’s life was defined by her faith, her devotion to her family, and the many relationships she built throughout her 96 years. She leaves behind a beautiful family legacy and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

     She is survived by her son, Dan Deatrick and his wife, Elsie; her daughter, Teresa Worrell and her husband, Keith; grandchildren, Nathan Deatrick (Grace), Levi Deatrick (Carol), Stephen Deatrick (Jennifer), Naomi Shields (Matt), Daniel Deatrick (Lara), Michael Deatrick (Honorah), Kindra Bergman (Randy), Cody Worrell, and Brian Worrell (Chelsie); forty-three great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

     In addition to her husband, George, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son in infancy, Billie Max Deatrick; two great-grandchildren, David Matthew Deatrick and Truly Deatrick; three brothers, James Conrad Tripp, Warren Leonard Tripp, and George Michael Tripp; her sister, Dora Mae Deatrick; foster brother, John B. Johnson; and nephew, Mark Tripp.

     A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, August 13 at First Baptist Church in Wayland, with Pastor Dan Deatrick officiating. A private family graveside service will be held Friday at Liberty Cemetery in rural Fairmont, Missouri.

     Visitation will be held prior to the service Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church, with the family greeting friends during that time.

     Memorials may be made to Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery in rural Fairmont.

Diane Kathleen Hechler

1958-2026

   Diann Kathleen Hechler of Quincy, Illinois (formerly of Keokuk, Iowa) passed away peacefully Saturday evening August 1, 2026 at Sunset Nursing Home Quincy after a brief illness.

     She was born March 2, 1958, at St. Joseph’s Hospital Keokuk to Shirley (Keim) Hechler and Ralph W. Hechler of Keokuk who both proceeded her in death. She is survived by her three siblings Debby (Hechler) Stotts, daughter Olivia (Stotts) Reed and husband Landon, great nephew Beau Reed; daughter Kara (Stotts) Bowles and husband Cooper, great nieces Leyton Bowles and Aubrey Bowles; Dale (Ann) Hechler, sons Charles Hechler and Samuel Hechler; Doug (Tina) Hechler, son Mark Savage and fiancée Desiree Schueller, son Nick (Leslie) Savage, great nephew Graham and great niece Eleanor; and son Chase (Jessica) Hechler.

     Diann’s parents were advocates and supporters of Catholic education in Keokuk, and she graduated from Cardinal Stritch High School Keokuk in 1976. Her professional career consisted of working in the finance and banking industry.

      She loved her family, especially her nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephew. She also loved spending time with her extended family which included the Lambert, Petty, Ewers, and McNally families for holidays, vacations, and get-togethers. She was a big Iowa Hawkeye fan, but an even bigger St. Louis Cardinal fan.

     A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, October 3, 2026 at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Father Hai Dinh officiating.  Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery.

     Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1-2 p.m., Saturday, October 3 at the funeral home with family meeting with friends at that time.

Blaine Clancy

1965 – 2026

 Blaine "Sarge" Clancy, 61, of Keokuk, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa.

     He was born on June 8, 1965, in Bloomfield, Iowa, the son of Lyle Eugene and Verna Mae Willier Clancy.

     Sarge graduated from Davis County High School in Bloomfield with the Class of 1983. Following high school, he proudly served his country in the Army National Guard during Operation Desert Storm.

     Throughout his working years, Sarge was employed at Heatilator in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. He also enjoyed the unique experience of traveling and working with carnivals, an adventure that allowed him to meet many people. 

     In his free time, Sarge enjoyed collecting geodes and had a talent for crafting knives from deer antlers.

     Sarge is survived by his daughter, Makayla Clancy (Curtis McKune) of Keokuk; his granddaughters, Raven, Ivy and Azurite; his former wife, Sue Clancy of Keokuk; one brother, Brian Clancy; three sisters, Bonnie Clancy, Beverly Schumacher, and Barb Showalter; along with several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Verna Clancy; his brother, Brent Clancy; and his faithful four-legged companion, Athena.

     Visitation will be held from 1 – 3 p.m., Sunday, August 9 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk.
