GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg College volleyball team had a trio of sophomores voted to the All-Region IV Division II District A team for their play for the Chargers this season.
Right side Gracie Rademacker, libero Jasmin McDaniel and setter Carmyn Baldwin were voted to the team by district coaches after leading Sandburg to a 23-17 record and Arrowhead Conference title during the regular season. Additionally, Rademacker will be submitted as an NJCAA All-America nominee by being one of the region’s three leading vote-getters.
A versatile third-year sophomore, Rademacker has played in all 40 matches and leads the Chargers this season with 558.5 total points, 4.1 points per set, 453 kills, 3.31 kills per set, 68 aces and 1,318 total attacks. Rademacker is also second on the team in digs and digs per set, with 524 and 3.82, respectively. Through Tuesday, she ranked among the top 20 nationally in NJCAA Division II in total attacks (ninth), points (10th), kills (13th) and aces (20th). Rademacker put down a career-best 27 kills in the Chargers’ five-set loss at No. 1 Parkland on Friday. She also led the Chargers with 24 digs in that match.
McDaniel ranks ninth nationally with 714 digs this season. She has played in all 40 of the Chargers’ matches, averaging 4.76 digs per set. The second-year starter has double-digit digs in all but two matches this season, including the first 35 matches in a row. McDaniel has notched at least 20 digs on 13 occasions this season and 30 or more digs five times. She picked up a career-high 39 digs in Sandburg’s Oct. 1 victory over Lake Michigan.
A three-year starter, Baldwin has started all 40 matches for the Chargers this season and is the nation’s leader in assists with 1,356. Her 9.69 assists per set are also good for 10th in NJCAA Division II. Baldwin’s 56 aces this season are second on the team to Rademacker, and she’s fourth on the team in digs with 330. Baldwin has handed out 30-plus assists in 24 matches this season and at least 40 on 12 occasions. She has three 50-assist efforts, including a career-best 62 on Oct. 1 against Lake Michigan.
The Chargers will compete in this weekend’s Region IV Division II District A tournament, starting with a quarterfinal match at 11 a.m. Saturday against Kankakee.
