FATAL STABBING IN FORT
MADISON
At 4:39 PM this date, a 911 call was received from an apartment manager in the 600
block of 6th street reporting a stabbing. A male tenant of the building was
assaulted with a knife in an upstairs hallway, and the assailant apparently fled
the scene on foot. The victim was administered first aid by fire department personnel
and then transported to the hospital by Lee County EMS. He has recently just
be pronounced deceased.
Fort Madison police officers have been on scene investigating and canvassed
the area for witnesses. The lowa Department of Public Safety Division of
Criminal Investigation (DCI) has since been summoned to assist what appears
to be an intentional homicide. Investigators believe that the victim and his
attacker were connected, and that this was decidedly not an act of random
violence.
Due to the fact that we are in the initial stages of the investigation, we do not
anticipate any further updates until consulting with our partners at DCI. Also,
the identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family
members.
