Joy Swearingen from the Legacy Theater on Real Country in the Mornings

The Legacy Theater in Carthage is continuing its series of regional performance videos, “Continuing the Legacy,” with a piano duet and solos.

This show features Joanne Chang from Western Illinois University and Alvin Ho. It can be viewed beginning Thursday, March 4,  on the theater’s website and Facebook page.

“Continuing the Legacy” is a free video series that showcases regional talent offered by The Legacy Theater this spring while the theater is not able to host live entertainment.

Joanne Chang is faculty assistant and staff pianist at Western Illinois University. She holds bachelor and masters degrees in piano and is a doctoral candidate in piano performance and literature at Indiana University’s Jacob School of Music. Her performance projects and recitals have taken her to Mexico, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hawaii and many other sites in North America .

Ho is currently a conducting fellow and assistant conductor at BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. He was assistant conductor at the Indiana Opera and Ballet Theater from 2017 to 2020, where he earned a masters in orchestral conducting from Jacob School of Music.

The piano video by Chang and Ho as well as the vocal performance by Rick Marshall that launched the series in February, are accessible at any time at www.thelegacytheater.com or on Facebook at “The Legacy Theater.”

In future weeks, additional video performers include Bluegrass fiddling by Kirk Brandenberger of Keokuk, Iowa; contemporary Christian music by the E Free Church Worship Team; country rock group Mad Hoss Jackson of Mt. Sterling. These performers are recorded on stage at The Legacy Theater.

This video series continues the  mission of The Legacy Theater, which is to bring great entertainment to region, even while the theater is closed.

“We are saddened that our theater has been dark for nearly year,” said Doug Groth, chairman of The Legacy Theater Foundation board. “This is one way for the theater to provide entertainment and highlight some great performers from this part of the Tri-State area.”

While there is no charge for viewing the “Continuing the Legacy” series, viewers can choose to make a donation on the web page.

Go to www.thelegacytheater.com or go to The Legacy Theater page on Facebook to see the video series.
