Mark Glen Speer, 69
Mark Glen Speer, 69, of Basco, Il, passed away at his home on October 3, 2026. Mark was born on November 21, 1956, the son of Leland Speer and Vernetha (Wichman) Speer in Keokuk, Iowa. He graduated from Warsaw High School in 1975. On
November 15, 1986, he was united in marriage to Jeanne Elder at Immanuel Lutheran Church and they later divorced.
Mark worked as a carpenter all his life. He was a jack of all trades. He collected antiques and enjoyed his player piano. He loved going to dinners and luncheons and visiting with people. He talked to everyone he met; he literally did not know a stranger, and he would help anyone in need. He enjoyed cooking, planting flowers and especially trees, and enjoyed his time spent wintering in Florida.
Mark is survived by his daughter Whitney Devan Lynne Speer and granddaughter, Oakland of Montrose, Iowa; his sister Debbie (Michael) Symmonds of Basco, IL; and a brother David Speer of Warsaw, IL; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Beverly Greenhagen; and a nephew, Eric Speer.
A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 12, 2026, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Carthage, with burial to follow at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. A visitation will be held prior to the service starting at 9:00 AM. Memorials
