1927-2026

 

Walter E. Jobe 99, of Keokuk, IA passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at Southeast Iowa Regional Healthcare Center in Fort Madison, IA.

     He was born February 6, 1927 in Keokuk, IA the son of Joseph Harvey and Anna Katherine McDonald Jobe. 

     Walter was united in marriage to Viola Mae Brown in Kahoka, MO.  To this union four sons were born, Richard Jobe, James Jobe, Michael Jobe and Baby Jobe.  Viola passed away in 1994, in Midland, TX where she is buried.  He later married Norma White on September 3, 2016.  She survives.     

     Other survivors include one son, Richard (Pam) Jobe of Houston, TX, two step daughters, Terry (Glenn) Snyder of Buffalo, MN and Debbie (Johnny) Thompson of Keokuk, IA, a step daughter-in-law, Linda White of Carthage, IL, three grandchildren, Shanna Jobe, Melissa Koffman and Lindy Jobe, nine step grandchildren and several step great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

     Walter was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Jim, Joe, Paul and George, five sisters, Nina, Ida, Phyllis, Betty and Minni, three sons, Mike, James and Baby Jobe and one stepson, Mike White.

     Walter always said there were two things he wanted to do when he was young.  Drive a truck and join the Navy.  He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944 and served aboard a destroyer named USS Earnest Small DD838 and was discharged in 1947 at the rank, Gunner Mate 3rd Class (GM3/c).  

     Walter was a faithful member of the Bel Air Baptist Church which he loved.  Walter started his truck driving career in 1955 with Inter Coast Jobber and Brokers of Los Angeles, CA and Lamesa, TX when they dissolved partnership.  Walter bought his first truck and started Wildcat Trucking, Hauling mostly delivering produce.       

      A graveside service with military rites will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, August 17 at the Keokuk National Cemetery with Pastor Mike McMillen officiating. 

     Memorials may be made to the Bel Air Baptist Church.
