Phyllis Pauline Reid
Phyllis Pauline Reid, 95, of Carthage, IL, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2026,
surrounded by her family at Memorial Hospital in Carthage.
Pauline was born on July 12, 1930, in Manley, IL. She was the daughter of Lawrence
and Mabel (Paul) Campbell. Pauline graduated from Colchester High School in 1948.
On February 18, 1951, she was united in marriage to William Edwin Reid in
Alamogordo, NM. In her earlier years, Pauline worked as a telephone operator in
Macomb, IL, and then for Holloman Air Force Base. She then stayed home and baby
sat for many years. Pauline returned to work as a circulation manager for Good Apple,
Inc. for 19 years before retiring. She also spent time tutoring through Carl Sandburg
College. Pauline belonged to the United Methodist Church in Carthage. She had a
strong love for the Lord. Pauline enjoyed flowers, gardening, baking, and recipes.
Pauline is survived by her children, Robert (Terri) Reid of Butler, GA, Ken (Carol) Reid
of Normal, IL, Lisa Merriman (Doug Marshall) of Nauvoo, IL, as well as many
grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Virginia Hawhorn, and Helen
Swisegood, and her infant brother, Gerald Campbell.
A funeral service will be held at 2:30pm on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the United
Methodist Church in Carthage with burial to follow at Moss Ridge Cemetery. A visitation
will be held prior to the service starting at 1pm. Memorials may be made out to the
United Methodist Church or The Baby Fold.
