Linda Susan Dittmer

Linda Susan Dittmer, 76, of Basco, died Saturday, April 18, at River Hills Nursing
Home in Keokuk, Iowa.
Linda was born Sept. 16, 1949, in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of Thomas and
Katherine Zmud Gibbs. She attended Detroit schools, and earned an associate
degree in biology from Wayne State University in Detroit. The family moved to
Florida in 1973. She worked as a technician at Radiation Incorporated in
Melbourne, Fla.
She married Larry Dittmer of Carthage, on Dec. 12, 1975, in Melbourne. They
moved to Basco in 1997. They celebrated their 50 th wedding anniversary in
December.
The couple enjoyed traveling, scuba diving and spending time with their girls in
Colorado and Texas. Linda was proud to have earned her small airplane pilot
license and was a member of the 99s Club of Women Pilots in Florida.
Linda was a long time member of the Basco Walkers. She loved working at the
log cabin at Western Illinois Threshers and helped with school field trips and
tours during the annual show. She enjoyed swimming at the YMCA and was a
gifted piano player.
Linda is survived by her husband, Larry; two daughters, Gretchen of San
Antonio, Texas, and Rebecca of Lakewood, Colo.; and one granddaughter,
Cameron. Also a cousin Tommy (Treva) Gibbs of Harrisburg, IL., and her
brothers and sisters-in-law, Alice Sundberg, Elaine and Bob Smith, Joy
Swearingen, and Dan and Becky Dittmer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers-in-law, Ken
Sundberg, and Walt Swearingen.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., on Friday, April 24, at Printy Funeral Home in
Carthage. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. before the service. Burial will follow
at Moss Ridge Cemetery.
