James Alan Mason

1963-2026

 

     James Alan Mason, 62 of Montrose, IA passed away Saturday April 4, 2026 at his friend’s house in Dallas City, IL.

     He was born May 30, 1963 in Keokuk, IA the son of Charles Erwin and Shirley Joline Weller Mason.  James graduated from Warsaw High School and later from Carl Sandburg College.

     On December 17, 1985 James was united in marriage to Janice Haneline in Keokuk.  She preceded him in death on February 23, 2002.

     James had been employed by Dickey Transport in Packwood, IA as an over the road truck driver.

     A true outdoorsman at heart, James loved spending time in nature. He enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, and pheasant hunting with his dogs. He also had a deep love for rock and roll music and rarely passed up the chance to attend a live concert with Janice.

     He is survived by his daughter, Betsy Mason of Crawfordsville, IA, and one grandson, Sam Mason-Goff.  He is also survived by one brother, Doug Mason (Jaunita) of Elvaston, IL, one sister, Brenda Padgett of Keokuk, two nieces, Katie and Peggy and two nephews, Chris “Spike” Mason (Veronica), and Ray Tripp.

     In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Dale, one sister, Sherry and one nephew, David Goodman.

     According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no services.

     The Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA is assisting the family with arrangements.
