WCAZ Obituary News

Sandra Sue "Sandy" Reeder,

Sandra Sue “Sandy” Reeder

Sandra Sue “Sandy” Reeder, 86, of Hamilton, passed away at 1:34
PM, Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
Sandy was born on May 26, 1939, at home in Burnside, IL, where her
parents lived in an apartment above the pool hall. She attended
elementary and high school in Carthage IL, where she graduated
from Carthage Community High School in 1957. After graduation,
Sandy attended Gem City Business College in Quincy, IL, graduating
also in 1957.
Sandy married Charles “Chuck” Goertz on October 13, 1957, and
raised two children, Deborah “Debbie” (Goertz) Vandemark and Rick
Goertz in Pittsfield, IL. Following a divorce and moving back to
Carthage, IL, Sandy married Russell Lee “Russ” Reeder in 1975.
Also in 1975, Sandy was hired as a secretary at Carthage Methode
Electronics while construction was ongoing for the new plant and
before the office was completed. The Plant Manager took notice of
Sandy’s curiosity, saw she was learning how the machinery operated,
and soon changed her employment status to Lead Girl over one line
of production in the plant. She soon worked her way up to Production
Supervisor. When the Warsaw Methode Electronics Plant was later
opened, she moved with that line to Warsaw, IL, and managed the
Warsaw Plant until 1999.
Sandy and Russ had a heart for stray cats, finding much joy in their
companionship. They lived out their days on the Nauvoo River Road
where they shared a home with a lovely view on the edge of
Hamilton, IL. Sandy became active in the United Methodist Church of
Hamilton when Russ passed, thanks to a beloved neighbor who was
persistent in inviting Sandy to church and stopped to pick her up.
Sandy found a new family in church, dearly loved everyone, and
enjoyed attending Bible Study, baking cookies for bake sales, and
helping with church projects.

Sandy was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Lee “Russ”
Reeder; father, Waldo Paul “Doe” Harrington; her mother Ida Frances
(Wright) Harrington; nephew, Philip Kent “PK” Dunham; nephew Paul
Harrington; and her beloved cats.
Sandy is survived by her children, daughter Deborah Ann “Debbie”
(Goertz) Vandemark; son Rick Alan Goertz; two grandchildren, Kalisa
Goertz and Jordan Goertz; her brother, Gary Lee Harrington; and
sister, Linda Lou Harrington.
Visitation will be held Friday, February 6, 2026, from 9:30 AM to 11:00
AM at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage. Funeral services will be
held immediately following at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with
burial to follow in McKay Cemetery near Burnside, Illinois. Following
burial, family and friends are invited to enjoy fellowship and a light
luncheon at the United Methodist Church of Hamilton. Memorials
may be directed to United Methodist Church of Hamilton, 861 Walnut
