Doris Veronica Carlson
Doris Veronica Carlson, 91, of River Hills Village in Keokuk, passed away on Tuesday,
January 27, 2026, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in Fort Madison, Iowa.
Doris was born on July 27, 1934, on a farm in Sonora Township, Illinois, the daughter of
Ferdinand and Veronica (Meister) Pilkington. She attended Saints Peter and Paul
Catholic School in Nauvoo. On August 8, 1953, she was united in marriage to Jim
Carlson at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Nauvoo, Illinois. He preceded her
in death on June 25, 2001.
Doris was a wife and mother, and worked at Keokuk Area Hospital for thirty years, first
as a CNA and later as an LPN after receiving her degree from Southeastern Community
College. She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, where she was a Eucharistic
Minister and volunteered in numerous ways. She was a member of the PTA, Altar and
Rosary society, Ladies of Charity, the Cursillo group and served on the parish council for
three years.
Doris is survived by two sons: Tim (Sue) Carlson of Frankfort, Illinois, and John (Lora)
Carlson of Kahoka, Missouri; three daughters: Marie Brownlee of Keokuk, Rebecca
(Victor) Soland of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Rita (Seth) Shotts of Revere,
Missouri; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren,
nieces, nephews and cousins.
Doris is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jim; two sons: Raymond and
Christopher; her daughter Teresa (Larry) Pullins; two grandchildren Felicity and Taylor;
four siblings: Rosemary (Walter) Hilsabeck, John (Mary Ida) Amos, Robert Pilkington
and Sister Angela; and her son-in-law Steve Brownlee.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at All
Saints Catholic Church in Keokuk, with burial to follow at Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk,
Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 pm on Monday, February 2, 2026, at DeJong-
Printy Funeral Home in Keokuk. A Rosary service will be held at the funeral home at 7
pm on Monday directly following the visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to All Saints Catholic Church, Keokuk
Catholic Schools or the donor’s choice.
