Rebecca "Becky" Sue Payne

Rebecca “Becky” Sue Payne, 80 of Keokuk, IA passed away Sunday, January 25, 2026 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, IA.

     She was born August 7, 1945 in Keokuk, IA the daughter of Cecil “Teed” and Corrine Moyer Thompson, Becky attended Keokuk High School and then Keokuk Cosmetology School. 

      On February 10, 1962 Becky was united in marriage to Larry Payne. They later divorced.  To this union, two children were born.

     Becky had been employed by Henniges in Keokuk until her retirement in 2012.

     She was a member of the Keokuk Saddle Club for many years. 

     Becky loved animals, especially horses.  She enjoyed trying her luck at the casinos playing the slots. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family making memories. 

     She is survived by one son, Sam Payne (Kris) of Keokuk, three grandchildren, Gabe Payne (Lauren), Nicholas Payne (Misty) and Carrie Payne (Cody McCarty), and seven great-grandchildren, Starr, Dalton, Bryce, Scarlet, Violet, Ruby and Aria.   She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Lois Thompson of Louisburg, KS and many nieces and nephews.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Larry M. Payne, three brothers, Roger, Robert “Bob” and Steve Thompson, one sister, Karen Lander, one sister-in-law, Lynn Thompson and one grandson, Jeff Coovert.

     A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 31 from 2-4 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Fellowship Hall.

     Memorials may be made to Keokuk Saddle Club.
