Margaret E. Rowland

Margaret Esther Rowland, 96, of Bowen, IL, passed away early on Tuesday, November
25, 2025, at Memorial Hospital in Carthage.
Margaret was born on December 2, 1928. She was the daughter of G.T. and Hazel
(Felgar) Taylor. Margaret graduated from Bowen High School in 1946. On January 19,
1946, Margaret was united in marriage to Owen Rowland. In her early years, she loved
to read. She enjoyed the outdoors and taking care of their animals. Margaret spent most
of her life taking care of her family and the family farm. Margaret was a great cook. She
could whip up a meal at any time. Later, she spent time working at the Chili Public
Library in Bowen. Over the years she enjoyed playing cards with friends and doing
puzzles.
Margaret’s first love was Jesus. She was a member of the Bowen Christian Church for
most of her life. She loved the church. Margaret was very involved as she was a
Sunday school teacher for many years and would sing beautifully for the church. Her
selfless and kind spirit will be missed greatly. Margaret loved her grandchildren, great
grandchildren, and great great grandchildren dearly and prayed daily for them.
Margaret was preceded in death by Owen Rowland, her loving husband of 68 years.
She is survived by her children, Diana (Larry) McClintock of Carthage, Il, Monte
Rowland of Bowen, Il, and Jan (Dr. Grant) Holst of Augusta, Il; her grandchildren,
Michelle (Mike) Bavery, Angela (Chris) Culliton, Jamie (Kara) McClintock, Jennifer
(Jeremy) Humiston, Cody (Erin) Holst, Kit (Wesley) Holst, and Josie (Jacob) Thomas;
her great grandchildren, Alison (Jeremy) Housewright, Rachel (Eric) Ingram, Ian
Culliton, Molly Culliton, Lillian McClintock, Elise McClintock, Amelia McClintock, Grace
Humiston, Faith Humiston, Titus Humiston, David Humiston, Reese Holst, Rhett Holst,
Rowen Holst, Knox Holst, Pierce Holst, Elle Thomas, Peyton Thomas, and Brooks
Thomas; and great great grandchildren, Emmett and Mya Housewright.
A funeral service will be held at 10am on Monday, December 1, 2025, at the Bowen
Christian Church with burial to follow at the Bowen Cemetery. A visitation will be held
from 4 – 6pm on Sunday, November 30, at the Bowen Christian Church. Memorials may
be made out to the Bowen Christian Church or the Memorial Hospital Foundation. Printy
