Marlys Elaine Heisler

Marlys Elaine Heisler

Marlys Elaine Heisler, 72, of Warsaw, Illinois, passed away on Friday, September 12,
2025, at AccentCare Hospice Center in Naperville, Illinois.
Marlys was born on September 2, 1953, in Kirksville, Missouri, the daughter of William
and Helen “Lucille” (Keller) Roost. She attended Warsaw High School, graduating in
1971. She went on to graduate from Illinois State University with a degree in Early
Childhood and Special Education. She put her degree to good use, teaching at the
Hamilton Elementary School for many years until her retirement in 2015. Marlys was a
devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church in Warsaw, where she served in many
capacities.
Marlys spent her life putting others first and helping anyway she could. She was
passionate in her roles that allowed her to do this. She served in many different
capacities as a lifelong member of the Warsaw Presbyterian Church. She was a
dedicated and benevolent school teacher at Hamilton for 38 years. She was a
compassionate sister and aunt, and an amazing mother to her two boys, Bill (Jennifer)
and Wade (Kiersten). But her favorite role was that of a loving grandmother to her four
grandkids (William, Landon, Piper, Remi). She beamed with pride at them and the
unique relationship she shared with each of them.
Marlys also had passions outside of work that created many positive relationships for
her. Despite not playing competitive sports herself she fell in love with them as an adult.
She spent a lot of years cheering vigorously for her kids and the Warsaw Wildcats. This
passion did not go away but only grew as her grandchildren became involved in sports.
Marlys also found fun in her retirement years. The swim group at the YMCA became
some of her best friends and provided her a great sanctuary. Her class of 71 outings
gave her lots of laughs and she always looked forward to them. And she became a
pretty good gardener. But her favorite thing in the world was spending time with her
family. Her willingness to help, to listen, and to love will be how she is remembered.
Marlys is survived by two sons: Bill (Jennifer) Heisler of Lockport, Illinois, and Wade
(Kiersten) Heisler of Carol Stream, Illinois; her sister Mary Harrison of Warsaw, Illinois;
and four grandchildren: William, Landon, Piper and Remington Heisler.
Marlys is preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Printy

pm, with family meeting friends from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home.
