John Thomas Ervin
John Thomas Ervin, 86, of Quincy, formerly of Hamilton, passed away at
his home Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at 2:03 PM.
John was born December 6, 1938, in Muncie, Indiana, the son of James
Otis and Helen Susanna (Merritt) Ervin. After graduating high school, he
went on to serve his country for 30 years in the U. S. Navy attaining the
rank of Chief Yeoman. He had an unwavering love for his country and
served it well. After retirement he entered college and received his
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. On January 6, 2017, John
was united in marriage to Marilyn Mae Post. She survives He also had a
great interest in genealogy and could trace his ancestry back several
hundred years. He also enjoyed sudoku.
John is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of Quincy; children, Kimberly A. Haas,
Jody L. Ervin, Sue Osborne and David L. (Gail) Sopher II; grandchildren,
James T. Ervin, Andrew A. Haas, Jennifer (Donald) Maggert and Justin
Dunmire; fourteen great grandchildren; a sister, Vera Irene Merritt; and
several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Tom Post; grandson, John
Dunmire; and three siblings, James Otis Ervin, Dana Paul Ervin and Clara
Sue.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, September 4, 2025,
at the First Baptist Church in Carthage. Family will meet friends from 10:00
AM until time of services at 11:00 AM at the church on Thursday. Miliary
rites will be accorded by the U. S. Navy Honor Guard. Memorials may be
directed to the Shriner’s Hospital or Blessing Hospice in Quincy. Printy
Funeral Home of Hamilton is in charge of arrangements.
