Christina “Tina” Smeltser

1956 – 2025   

 Christina “Tina” Smeltser, 69, of Keokuk, IA passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at River Hills Village.

     She was born on April 23, 1956 in Keokuk the daughter of Frank and June (Robinett) Protsman.

     Tina graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1973.

     On February 12, 1977 she was united in marriage to Dave Smeltser in Wayland, MO. He preceded her in death on August 7, 2007.  Her longtime companion Carroll “Tootie” Cunningham also preceded her in death on July 20, 2019.

      Tina was employed for years at Bob Land’s Service Station in Alexandria, MO. She then worked for the Keokuk Community School District until her retirement.

        She is survived by her son, Zebadiah Smeltser of Canton, MO, two brothers, Frank (Joyce) Protsman of Keokuk and Danny “Boone” Protsman of Alexandria, MO, Two step- children, Sean (Melissa) Smeltser of Kahoka, MO and Lisa Allen of Perry, MO, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

      Per her wishes, there will be no services, she will be buried in the Keokuk National Cemetery with her late husband.

      To honor her memory, memorials may be made to the family (in care of Brandy Magray, 2408 Belknap Blvd., Keokuk, Iowa 52632 these funds will be used to purchase items for the River Hills Activity Fund.  This is for activities of residents of the nursing home, like Bingo and crafts projects that she so enjoyed.  The family expresses a huge thank you to River Hills Staff for the wonderful care she received.  They treated her like family and also to EveryStep Hospice for the comfort and support given to Tina and her family.

     The Vigen Memorial Home of Keokuk is assisting the family with arrangements.
