Marlin June Gunn
Memorial Hospital in Carthage.
Marlin was born in Kampsville, IL, on April 8th, 1948, the daughter of Arthur Squier and
June Vetter. Marlin graduated from Camp Point Central in 1966 and began her
professional journey at Sheller Globe, where she worked diligently for a decade. She
then joined Nicor Gas. During her remarkable 30-year tenure, she broke barriers as the
company's first female welder and later became the first female crew supervisor in the
state of Illinois. Marlin was a hard worker but under that tough exterior was a tender,
generous, and giving mother and friend. It didn’t matter if you were a stranger, she
would help anyone she could and if she didn’t have something she would get it for you.
She loved Jesus, read her bible, and had a deep faith. Marlin spent 3 years at Hickory
Grove where she left quite an impact on everyone there. She found joy in life’s simple
pleasures and was a vibrant spirit in her community.
Marlin is survived by her daughter, Anita Gunn, of Carthage, IL; her brother, Terry
"Butch" (Pat) Squier of Roanoke, IL; and her sister, Robyn (Bill) Tatum of Carthage, IL;
her nieces, Melanie (Richard) Douglas and Jennifer (D.L.) Peterson as well as many
other nieces and nephews; her “adopted daughters,” Loretta Blodgett, Lisa Ross,
Kristen Doyle, and her “California daughters” Meli and Geena, who were like family to
her, as well as her beloved pets, Cashew and Tippi.
Marlin was predeceased by her loving parents and her brothers, Ronald, Donald, Jerry,
Charlie, Lyndell, Jay, and John.
A celebration of life will be held from 11am – 2pm on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at the
VFW in Carthage. Memorials may be made out to the family for funeral expenses. Printy
Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
