WCAZ Obituary News

Lois Evelyn Bloyd

Lois Evelyn Bloyd, 88, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 27, 2025. She was born

on March 25, 1937, in Keokuk, Iowa, to Kenneth and Helen (Jones) Londrie. Lois was

the third of fourteen children and grew up on Joetta Road, just outside of Fountain

Green, Illinois.

On June 25, 1955, she was united in marriage to Leo Bloyd in Carthage, Illinois. He preceded

her in death in 1986. Together, they had one daughter, Bonnie Bloyd Helms (Greg Bisby).

Lois was a proud grandmother to Melissa (Christopher) Mott and Sara (Steven) Swallow, and a

loving great-grandmother to Brylee, Brailyn, and Brenna Mott, and Connor and Easton Swallow.

She was proceeded in death by an infant grandson, Joseph Lee Helms.

Surviving siblings including Margie Russel, Michael Londrie and Gary Londrie. Siblings that

proceeded her in death are June Probst, Maxine Claire, Joe, Bonnie Sue Cosgrove, Max, Sonny,

Wayne, Marcia, Randy and Mitzie Bland.

Later in life, Lois found lasting love and companionship with Jim Shepler. The two shared many

years together, and it was no secret how deeply she adored him. Jim preceded her in death in

2012, and Lois carried his memory in her heart every day thereafter.

Born during the Great Depression, Lois was no stranger to hard work and resilience. She spent

decades at The Peacock Inn, eventually owning and operating it for over 50 years — keeping its

doors open 365 days a year. Though her schedule allowed little time for travel, she cherished

every chance to get away, no matter how brief.

Lois was an avid yard saler and enjoyed visiting with anyone she crossed paths with. Lois had a

love for country music, camping, and antique tractors, and was a proud member of the Argyle

Tractor Club in Colchester, Illinois. She loved her family fiercely, supported them in every way

she could, and leaves behind a legacy of strength, loyalty, and quiet devotion.

She will be remembered for her grit, her generous heart, and her unwavering commitment to

those she loved. Her presence was the foundation of her family — a steady and loving force in

their lives.

Though she is no longer physically with us, her love lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.

The Celebration of Life Visitation will be held at Printy Funeral Home, in Carthage, Illinois from

4:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday evening, July 3, 2025, with family meeting friends from 5:00 – 7:00

PM with burial to follow at another date.
