Marilyn Jean Jones

1944-2025

 

     Marilyn Jean Jones, 81 of Keokuk, IA passed away Thursday, June 26, 2025 at River Hills Village in Keokuk.

     She was born February 16, 1944 in Keokuk, IA the daughter of Thomas Henry and Pansy V. Howell Coop.  Marilyn graduated from Keokuk High School with the class of 1962.

     On August 19, 1962 Marilyn was united in marriage to Thomas Owen Houghton.  He preceded her in death on July 5, 1989.  She later married Ron L. Jones on May 5, 1990 in Keokuk.  He survives.

     Other survivors include three children, Kurt Thomas Houghton (Michelle) of Keokuk, Steven Clark Houghton of Burlington, IA and one daughter, Megan Jessica Mcmillan of Ottumwa, IA, several grandchildren and one great grandchild.  He is also survived by one brother, Edward Coop (Rosemary) of Florida.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, and two brothers, Joe Coop and Richard Coop.

     Marilyn had been employed by Shaffer Pen in Ft. Madison, IA until her retirement.

     She was a faithful member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church.

     Marilyn had a special love for animals and enjoyed collecting dog statues. She loved a good game of Dominos and always played to win.  Marilyn had a zest for life and her laugh and smile were contagious.  She never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone, brightening many lives over the years.

     A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 7, 2025 at the Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk, IA with Pastor Dave Barrett officiating.  

     Memorials may be made to Emmanuel United Methodist Church.
