During his younger years, Ron had the opportunity to stay with his uncle and cousins in Alton, IL and his older brother in San Jose, CA and attended schools in both locations.  He cherished those times and learned a lot.  Ron joined the Navy at 17 on the buddy plan with his good friend Bob Hall and traveled the seas to different ports around the world, stationed in San Diego, CA and the Great Lakes.  He learned to be a boilermaker, pipe fitter and electrician while in the service.   He worked mainly as an electrician when he got out, working for various companies.  For one company he worked for, he traveled around some states, including Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Missouri, Kansas, New York, Indiana and Florida, wiring motels, stores, hospitals and even private homes.  He took pride in his abilities and workmanship and was able to work with his son, teaching him the knowledge and skills to carry on the trade.  Ron’s dad was an electrician by trade also.

Ron lived in the country most of his adult life and loved it.  He enjoyed the wide open skies and loved looking at the stars at night.  He liked to walk the creek beds and around the river looking for unusual rocks and arrowheads.  He once made a beautiful rock garden with unique and unusual rocks in memory of his daughter.  He loved fishing, riding horses, kayaking, mushroom hunting, raising chickens, mowing and tinkering with things, making old things look new again and then giving them away.  He liked to look at his horoscope every day and would text his wife and daughter their horoscope for amusement and to see how events of the day matched up.  He also loved watching movies and had a huge movie collection.  Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially doing projects with his young grandson.

A graveside service with military rites will be held at noon 12 p.m., Friday at the Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk.

Memorials may be made to PAW Animal Shelter and Aviator in Des Moines.
