Earl O. Vermeesch

1947 - 2025

 

     Earl O. Vermeesch, 77 of Keokuk, IA passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at his home.

     He was born October 17, 1947 in Keokuk, IA the son of John and Lillie Davis Vermeesch. 

     On May 11, 1972 Earl was united in marriage to Annie Burgess at the Salvation Army in Keokuk.  She survives.

   Other survivors include three children, Earl John Vermeesch, Lilly Crowell and Peggy Vermeesch, six grandchildren, Todd, Chelsey, Drake, Sherry, Courtney and Brittney and eight great grandchildren.  He is also survived by one sister, Norma Steffensmeier and one brother, Perry Vermeesch, brothers and sisters in law, Rick Burgess (Sue), Sally Bennett, Mary McGee, Richard Burgess, Linda Burgess and Butch Strond along with many nieces and nephews.
     He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, John “Buster” Stark, Betty Knight, Patsy Best, Gale Barrows, Zenia Vermeesch, Mary Francis Stark, Mary Burdess, Ruth Arend, Evelyn Vermeesch and two brothers in infancy.

     He was a member of New Testament Church Christian Church in Keokuk.

     Earl appreciated the simpler things in life.  He loved to go fishing, watching wrestling on television and playing card games.  He was a good friend to many and was always willing to help others in need.

     A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, April 14 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Pastor Derek Olsen officiating.  Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk.

      Memorials may be made to New Testament Christian Church or to the family.
