Stephen Dennis McNally (Wimpy), 77 of Carthage, Illinois passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, April 3, 2025.
Steve was born on June 28, 1947, to Hugh and Gertrude (Lafeber) McNally. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1970, where he earned the respect of his fellow service members for his dedication and hard work. After his service, Steve worked as a dedicated city worker for 25 years at the Carthage City water plant as well as the Carson Ford dealership. Outside of work, Steve was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing throughout his life. He was also known for his love of sports and card games, always bringing energy and camaraderie to any game. He was a member of the Eagles club in Carthage. His generous spirit extended to his community as well, as he volunteered his time to deliver meals to those in need during the holidays. “Wimpy” will be deeply missed by many friends.
Steve is survived by his loving sister, Jane McNally-Vasey, and his brother Michael (Barbara) McNally and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Gertrude McNally and a brother-in-law, Howard Vasey.
Burial with Military Rites will be on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Calvary Cemetery in Carthage. There will be a Celebration of life at the Eagles club immediately following the burial. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Printy funeral home in Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
