Mike was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Sharon Lasswell.

Professionally, Mike was a man of many talents and an esteemed member of the broadcast community. After graduating from Carthage High School in 1963, he pursued higher education at DeVry Institute of Technology in Chicago, IL, where he completed training in Electronics Technology. His career began in broadcast radio as an announcer and engineer, at WCAZ in Carthage, and stations in Ottumwa, IA and Monmouth, IL. In 1968, he moved to Quincy and began work at Motorola as a TV Analyzer. Mike started the Biomedical Engineering Department at St. Mary Hospital, a position he held from 1974 until the hospital consolidation. In 1994, he became the Chief Engineer at KHQA-TV. He went on to become the Regional Director of Engineering for Barrington Broadcast, overseeing stations in Peoria and Quincy. After retiring, Mike joined other investors to form Hancock County Broadcasting, culminating in the reestablishment of WCAZ radio in the Carthage, Illinois. This move brought him full circle in his career - an endeavor of which he was extremely proud.

Mike's influence reached far into the broadcast engineering community. He served as the Vice Chairman of Chapter 49 of the Society of Broadcast Engineers for Central Illinois and was actively involved in the education committee for the national society. His commitment to education was evident in his co-chairmanship at JWCC and QHS in their curricular communications. As a volunteer advisor for WGCA Radio and the co-author of the handbook titled "Broadcast Administration," Mike's contributions to the field were both practical and profound.

Mike's passion for his work was matched by his dedication to community service. He was an elder and Sunday school teacher at Madison Park Christian Church for 40 years, where he also chaired the Benevolent Committee, and founded the Divorce Support Group.

Despite a long and active career, Mike’s priority remained to his family. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, and doting grandfather. His love for his family was evident and he will be greatly missed.
