Walter Pile

Walter was born Oct. 9, 1927, the son of George E. and Margaret C. (Jackson) Pile
in Banner County, NE.
He served in the Army from 1951-1953. On May 16, 1951, he was united in
marriage to Letafern Husted at her parents’ home near Denver, IL. Following
discharge from the Army, they made their home near Harrisburg, NE for 5 years,
and then moved to Hancock County in January 1958, where he engaged in
farming. During this time, he served on the Board of the Hancock County Farm
Bureau and the Hancock Grain Company, and 20 years on the Selective Service
Board. He was a member of the American Legion, and volunteered for the
American Cancer Society and RSVP. He was a member of Providence Primitive
Baptist Church of rural Plymouth and was ordained a deacon in January 1960.
In October 2016, they moved to Wentzville, MO to live with their daughter, where
Letafern died Dec. 26, 2016. He moved to the Boulevard Senior living in January
2019. He married Ernestine Kohlhauff on Oct. 8, 2019, who died November 5,
2023. He is survived by a daughter-in-law, Teresa (Pile) Roach of Windsor, MO, a
daughter, Barb (Lane) Eichhorn of Wentzville, a son, Ron (Sharon Beckman) Pile
of Iowa City, Iowa, five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren a sister, Dorothy
Huffman, and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his
parents, his wife, his son, Roger Pile, one brother, Wayne, and 4 sisters, Fern
Bybee, Idrys Davis, Ruth Mortenson, and Doris Pile.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at
Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with burial to follow in the Harmony Township
Cemetery near Bentley with military rites. Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00
PM Tuesday evening at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage. Memorials may be
directed to the Harmony Township Cemetery or the Providence Primitive Baptist
Church. Printy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
