Irene Mae Ramsey Bloyd

1936-2024

 

     Irene Mae Ramsey Bloyd, 88 of Keokuk, IA passed away Sunday, October 20, 2024 at her home.

     She was born August 22, 1936 in Keokuk, IA the daughter of Marion, Sr. and Della Mae Canida Ramsey. 

     Irene was first united in marriage to George Batley, Jr.  To this union four children were born, Terry, Steven, Rick, and Dale.  They later divorced.   On September 20, 1979 Irene was united in marriage to Larry Gene Bloyd and gained three bonus children, Tom, Merle and Becky.  He preceded her in death on July 8, 1989.

     Irene had been a lifelong resident of Keokuk.  She was employed at 4th Street Café for seventeen years and retired from Chintzs.

     Irene kept her mind sharp by working on word puzzles and picture puzzles. She enjoyed the challenge of a tricky crossword or a complex jigsaw.

     She is survived by five sons, Steven Batley (Michelle), Rick Batley, Dale Batley, all of Keokuk, Merle Bloyd (Denise) of Mendon, IL and Tom Bloyd of Greentop, MO and one daughter, Becky Miller of Keokuk, twelve grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by her caregiver, Misty McKnight and close friends, Priscilla Clinton and Starre McGhghy and numerous nieces and nephews.

     She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, Terry Batley, and her brother, Marion Ramsey, Jr.

     A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Pastor Dan Davis officiating.  Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park in Keokuk.

     Visitation will be held from 5 – 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the family meeting with friends at that time. 

     Memorials may be made to Lee County Hospice.
