John Carl Hymes
October 9, 2024, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
John was born September 5, 1948, the son of Frederick and Joy (Rupp)
Hymes in Keokuk, Iowa. In 1968, he joined the U.S. Army in Artillery. He
received his Honorable Discharge in 1970 as a Specialist 4. He was united
in marriage to Betty Hymes in Hamilton on March 14, 1969. John was
employed for 32 years at Henniges in Keokuk, retiring in 2009. He enjoyed
fishing, hunting, mushroom season and was a long-time member of the
Hamilton Jaycees. He especially enjoyed evening drives with his wife
looking for deer and spending time with his grandchildren and great
grandchildren.
John is survived by his wife, Betty, of Hamilton; daughter, Carla Hymes of
Hamilton; a son, Brian (Stacy) Hymes of Montrose, Iowa; grandchildren,
Amanda, Deseree’ (William), Alysha (Jacob), Brandon (Halee), Matthew
(Haley) and Kristina; great grandchildren, Camren, Ethan, Brooklyn,
Oakley, Emmalyn, Adeline, Mason and Ethan; two brothers, Greg (Patty)
Hymes of Warsaw, Russ Hymes of Donnellson; a sister, Francis Leffler of
Carthage; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Freddy and Joy; a sister, Ella;
and a brother, Jerry.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 16,
2024, at Printy Funeral Home in Hamilton with burial to follow in Oakwood
Cemetery in Hamilton with Military Honors rendered by the United States
Army and Hancock County Honor Guard. Family will meet friends from
9:00 AM until time of services at 11:00 on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to the Hancock County Honor Guard. Printy
Funeral Home of Hamilton is in charge of arrangements.
