Barbara Jean Coovert

1929 – 2024

 

     Barbara Jean Coovert, 95, of Keokuk, IA, died Saturday, September 21, 2024 at River Hills Village in Keokuk, IA.

     She was born on August 12, 1929 in Keokuk, IA, the daughter of Earl Gilpin and Lola Morrisey Gilpin.

     On May 15, 1948, Barbara was united in marriage to Clarence “June” Junior Coovert in Keokuk, IA. He preceded her in death on November 23, 2014.

     She is survived by two sons, David (Kathy) Coovert of Keokuk and Daniel (Joan) Coovert of Manhattan KS, five grandchildren, Eric Coovert, Megan (Daniel) Hogan. Stephanie Coovert, Aaron (Sara) Coovert and Alex (Denise) Coovert, nine great grandchildren, Hannah, Luke, Owen, Kylee, Zayleigh, Ruairi, Nathan, Rachel and Scarlett. Other survivors include her sister, Mary Symmonds of Keokuk.

     Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack Gilpin, Donald Gilpin and Warren “Ike” Johnston.

     She was a member of the Living Waters Assembly of God.

     Some of Barbara’s favorite hobbies included making beautiful quilts, crocheting special projects, playing cards and taking car rides around town to take in the sites.

     Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 25 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Pastor Terry Massey officiating.

     Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with the family meeting with friends at that time.

     Memorials may be made to the Living Waters Assembly of God of Keokuk.
