Linda Sue Mullen

1951 - 2024

 

     Linda Sue Mullen, 72, of Keokuk passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at River Hills Village in Keokuk.

     She was born on August 11, 1951 in Peoria, Illinois the daughter of James and Jean Budzinski Carlton.

     Linda graduated from Limestone Community High School in Bartonville, Illinois with the class of 1967 and later earned her associates degree from Southeastern Community College.   Linda continued her education at Iowa Wesleyan College, where she earned her business degree in 1985.  In 2009 she the graduated from Simpson College as a certified lay servant for the Methodist Church.

     Linda was united in marriage to Charles Gobart on June 28, 1967.  They were blessed with one son, Richard Gobart.  Charles preceded her in death in 1977.  She married her longtime companion David Mullen on October 13, 1977 and March 13, 1989. 

     She was employed at Wal-Mart until her retirement in 2019. 

     She was a faithful and active member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Keokuk. 

     Linda was actively involved in her community, volunteering her time with local organizations serving on many boards at one time or another, including the United Way, Keokuk Area Hospital Auxiliary, Keokuk Public Library, Keokuk Housing Authority, Keokuk Business Professional Women, Keokuk American Legion Auxiliary Unit #41 and the Department of Iowa American Legion Auxiliary.  She served as the Department President in the year 2000-2001 and was a lifetime member. Whether she was assisting at the church, participating in community efforts, or organizing events, Linda's commitment to making a difference never hesitated. Her passion was supporting veterans and their families.

     In her free time, she enjoyed reading, working on the computer, doing bus tours around the country, and telling David what to do.

      Linda is survived by her husband, David Mullen of Keokuk, a son, Richard Gobart (Meg) of Keokuk, two granddaughters, Lily Gobart and Emma Gobart and a grandson, Levi Krome. She is also survived by her sister, Jan Carlton and her partner Carl Sistern, and her brother, James Carlton (Sue) of Hesperia, CA along with numerous nieces and nephews.

     She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Judy Wright-Mays.

     A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Pastor Dave Barrett officiating.  Burial will be in the Keokuk National Cemetery.

     Visitation will be held after 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the family meeting with friends from

4 – 7 p.m.

     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Department of Iowa ALA Junior Camp or the Emmanuel United Methodist Church.
