Jeanette Louise Varner

1957-2024

 

     Jeanette Louise Varner, 67 of Argyle, IA passed away Sunday, February 25, 2024 at Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington, IA.

     She was born February 9, 1957 in Keokuk, IA the daughter of Carl and Nancy Mary Catherine McDermott Washburn.  She graduated from Keokuk High School with the class of 1975 and from Southeastern Community College, where she received her Associates Degree.

     Jeanette had been employed by Community Action for twenty-eight years as a family development specialist.  Most recently, she worked at Hy-Vee.

     Jeanette enjoyed doing needlework, including crocheting and quilting.  She loved farm life, all types of animals and watching her favorite television shows, Father Brown, Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman and The Red and Green Show.  Jeanette’s grandchildren were the sunshine of her life and she spent every chance she could with them.

     She is survived by two daughters, Catherine Varner (Cody Farr) of Keokuk and Julia Varner (Lane Metcalf) of Blandinsville, IL, three sons, Richard Varner (Sharon) of Keokuk, Joseph Varner of Keokuk and John Varner (Carrie Wilson) of Keokuk and eleven grandchildren.  She is also survived by three brothers, Martin Eugene Washburn (Maria) of Virginia, Tom Washburn of Keokuk and William Washburn (Nancy) of Reed City, MI and three sisters, Catherine Washburn, Rose Washburn and Julia Sell (Ronald) all of Keokuk and several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

     She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Carl Washburn and John Washburn and one sister-in-law, Tommi Washburn.

     A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Pastor Donnie Skinner officiating.  Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk.

     Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home with family meeting with friends at that time.

     Memorials may be made to the family.
