Doris Jeannine Steinhour

Doris Jeannine Steinhour, 91, of rural Carthage, passed away at her home at 5:16 AM
Sunday, February 25, 2024.
Jeannine was born February 29, 1932, in Keokuk, Iowa at St. Joseph’s Hospital the
daughter of Lloyd Thomas, Sr. and Myrtle L. (Kachle) Mapes. She attended “Christy”, a rural
elementary grade school and graduated from Hamilton High School with the class of 1949. On
March 12, 1950, she was united in marriage to Lloyd L. Steinhour at Ferris Christian Church in
Ferris, Illinois.
Jeannine is survived by three sons, Jerry Lee (Elaine Holbrook) Steinhour of Osage
Beach, Missouri, Steven Lloyd (Audra) Steinhour of Carthage, and Darrel Lynn (Kay De)
Steinhour of Venice, Florida; eight grandchildren, April (Mark) Royan, Amy (Jerry) Barron,
Preston (Amy Huss) Steinhour, Chancesity (Todd) Kirchner, Matthew (Elizabeth) Steinhour,
Caitlin (James) Wesolek, Douglas (Megan) McCoy and Cassie Whitford; 11 great-grandchildren,
Zoie Dawn, Austin Lane, and Caden Lee Steinhour, Andrew Peyton and Max Harrison Royan,
James Paul (J.P.), Charlotte Ruth and Arthur Julien Wesolek, Waylon Rowdy McCoy, and Amirah
Monroe and Nevaeh MiAmoura Barron; one great great grandson due in March; a brother,
Danny (Bette) Mapes of LaHarpe; two brothers-in-law, John Radel of Nauvoo and Bob Swartz of
Quincy; Donna Steinhour of Burlington; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jeannine was a farmwife and homemaker and worked alongside her husband. She
helped prepare the field for planting and trucked the grain at harvest time. She enjoyed
sewing, gardening, canning, music and working in her flowers. She especially enjoyed each of
her grandchildren. She served on the Harmony Township Election Board. She was a 20-year
Home Extension member, volunteered and delivered senior citizen’s meals for 30 years and
was a member of the Basco Walkers. Jeannine also baked anniversary and wedding cakes. She
was the organist for 10 years at the Fountain Green Presbyterian Church and more recently
played piano at the Mt Pleasant Christian Church. She was baptized at Ferris Christian Church
at age 14.
After Lloyd, her husband of 62 years, retired from farming they enjoyed camping and
traveling to many states to visit family and friends. She later wintered several years in Florida.
Jeannine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd; brother, Lloyd T.
Mapes, Jr; sister-in-law, Euvon Mapes Radel; sister, Gloria Mapes Roskamp Strate; brothers-in-
law, Herbert Roskamp and LeRoy Strate; and daughter-in-law, Sue Peddicord Steinhour.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Printy Funeral Home in
Carthage. Visitation will be from noon until time of service at 2:00 at the funeral home.
Interment will be held in Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton at a later date. Memorials may be
made to Harmony Town Hall for the upkeep of the building or Hearts of Hancock Humane
Society in Carthage. Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
