Shirley Ruth Higbee

1935-2024

 

     Shirley Ruth Higbee, 88 of Keokuk, IA passed away Thursday, February 22, 2024 at the Birkwood Village in Ft. Madison, IA.

     She was born July 21, 1935 in Ravenscroft, TN the daughter of Roy and Louvenna Page Nash.

     On October 10, 1953 Shirley was united in marriage to Ursel Eugene “Gene” Higbee.  He preceded her in death on September 11, 2009.

     Shirley was a member of New Testament Christian Church in Keokuk.

     She enjoyed crocheting, planting flowers and watching hummingbirds and wildlife.  She was a devoted mother and homemaker who greatly enjoyed caring for her family. Her greatest joy in life was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  

     She is survived by four daughters, Debbie Martin (Chuck) of Montrose, IA, Linda Messenger of Palmyra, MO, Brenda Hoffstatter (Bob) of Branson, MO and Wanda Schindley of Mt. Pleasant, TX, two sons, Kim Higbee of Mt. Pleasant, TX and Kirk Higbee of Kenmore, WA, thirteen grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by one sister, Sonnia Rowlett of Ft. Madison, IA.

     Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, Steve Higbee, one grandchild and one sister, Sandra LaBonte.

     A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, at the Keokuk National Cemetery with Pastor Dawn Butler officiating. 

     In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Compasses Hospice.
