Leroy Agnew

Leroy Agnew, 82, of Hamilton, passed away at 2:43 PM, Wednesday,
February 21, 2024, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
Leroy was born November 5, 1941, at home in Hamilton, the son of August
Harold “Buck” and Louise Maria (Cook) Agnew. He was united in marriage
to Sherry Wieprecht on Valentines Day 1975. She preceded him in death
in 2023. Leroy had worked as a janitor for the Montebello Care Center for
thirty years retiring in 2007. He then went to work for cleaning the Hamilton
Community Center and City Hall for many years up to the present. He
could often be seen riding his bike, which he enjoyed, as well as gardening
and taking care of his lawn. He was a member of the Assembly of God
Church in Hamilton.
Leroy is survived by a son, Jason Agnew of Keokuk; daughter, Jamie
Agnew of Hamilton; three grandchildren, Carter Sprague, Jarin Agnew and
Emmit Agnew; siblings, Rosalie (Raymond) Bruns of Labelle, Missouri,
Jack Agnew of Hamilton, Jean (Jim) Richardson of Hamilton, Betty (John)
Hymes of Hamilton, Ray Agnew of Carthage and Robert McVeigh of
Carthage; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sherry; and siblings, Patty
Parish, Philip Agnew, Karen Sue Agnew and Kenneth Agnew.
A memorial service will be held at 5:00 PM Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at
the Hamilton Community Center. The family will meet friends following the
service util 8:00 PM at the Community Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials
may be directed to the family of Leroy Agnew. Printy Funeral Home of
Hamilton is in charge of arrangements.
