David Lawrence Sapp

1950 – 2023

 

     David Lawrence Sapp, 73, of Keokuk, IA, died Friday, December 8, 2023 at his home.

     He was born on June 8, 1950 in Keokuk, IA, the son of Charles and Grace (Varner) Sapp.  He graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1968.

     On March 5, 1977, David was united in marriage to Yvonne Allison.  She survives.

     He is also survived by one son, Derek Sapp and his wife Corrin of Hamilton, IL and six grandchildren, Allison Sapp, Josephine “Josie” Sapp, Makenzie “Kenzie” Sapp, Kallie Harmon, Brodie Edwards and Abbie Gunning.  Other survivors include three brothers, Roy Sapp and his wife Pam of Keokuk, Melvin Sapp of Keokuk, Charles Sapp of Edmond, OK, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

     He was preceded in death by several siblings, Betty Boyer, Rolene Fenton, Esther Kehler, Mary Moellerif, Ruth Gooding, Lewis Sapp, James Sapp and Bob Sapp.  He was also preceded in death by two sisters and one brother in infancy.   

      In his early years, David had been employed at Ideal Ready Mix.  He then was the owner of the Ten Pin Bowl and later the Arrowhead Bowl until his retirement in 2015.  He had also owned and operated the Lee County Speedway for six years.

     David’s favorite hobbies were bowling and NASCAR racing.  Most of all, his grandchildren were the light of his life and he enjoyed attending all the sporting events that they participated in. 

     A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

     The Vigen Memorial Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
