Charles Wayne Patterson

Charles Wayne Patterson, 86, of Hamilton, passed away at 11:37 PM Friday, November 24,
2023, at Memorial Hospital in Carthage.
Charles was born November 7, 1937, the son of Orlando and Palice Marie (Bufford) Patterson in
Crockett’s Bluff, Arkansas. On August 4, 1961, he was united in marriage to Mary Close at the
First Christian Church in Hamilton. Charles worked at Steel Castings in Keokuk for 45 years and
was a member of the United Steel Worker’s Union local #3311. He was an active member of
the First Christian Church in Hamilton where he had served as an elder, deacon and board
member. Charles lived his faith in every aspect of his life. He was a kind and humble man, the
personification of honor, love, integrity and hard work. He enjoyed watching baseball, NASCAR,
old western movies, working in his garage and fishing. He especially enjoyed anything involving
his grandchildren. He was the foundation of faith and love for his family, a true treasure. He
was cherished and respected by all who knew him.
Charles is survived by his wife, Mary, of Hamilton; two daughters, Sheila Queen and Brenda
Patterson, both of Hamilton; grandchildren, Mitch (Becca Root) Noble, Amanda (Jeff) Maxwell,
Shelby (Michael) Hageman, Samantha (Landon Paredes) Syfert, and Brady Syfert; great
grandchildren, Ava and Anna Noble, Jayden Taft, Ryan and Rachel Maxwell, Dalton Weaver,
Alayna McAfee and Alexis Hageman; one sister, Joyce Williams of Marengo, Iowa, and several
nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James Childers, Ronnie Patterson, Merle
Patterson and Ray Childers in infancy; a sister Marilyn Patterson in childhood; and a son-in-law,
Terry Queen.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, November 30, 2023, at Printy Funeral Home
in Hamilton with burial to follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton. Visitation will be held
from 3:00 – 7:00 PM Wednesday evening at Printy Funeral Home in Hamilton with family
meeting friends from 5:00 – 7:00. Memorials may be directed to the First Christian Church in
Hamilton. Printy Funeral Home of Hamilton is in charge of arrangements.
