James Henry Childers

James Henry Childers, 90, of Hamilton, passed away at his home, Wednesday morning, September 20, 2023.

 

James was born February 4, 1933, in Lepanto, Arkansas, the son of Ray Childers and Palice Marie Bufford.  At the age of 20 his family moved to Hamilton.  He worked at Steel Castings in Keokuk for forty-two years.  He was a faithful member of Faith Assembly of God church in Hamilton.

 

On February 1, 1964, he was united in marriage to Carol Lou Shearer in Kahoka, Missouri.  To this union were born two children, Lori and Stuart.  They later divorced.  On May 7, 1976, he married Alice Cook.  She preceded him in death.

 

James liked to fish and really enjoyed watching St. Louis Cardinal’s baseball, football games and wrestling.

 

James was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alice; stepfather, Orlando Patterson who raised him; a sister, Marilyn; and brothers, Merle and Ronnie Patterson.

 

He is survived by his daughter, Lori (Dean Hagman) Marks of Kahoka; son, Stuart Childers of Hamilton; grandchildren, Ashley Deck, Felicity Childers and Jacob Deck; a great granddaughter, Allana Deck; a brother, Charles (Mary) Patterson of Hamilton; a sister, Joyce Williams of Marengo, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, September 25, 2023, at Printy Funeral Home in Hamilton with burial to follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton.  Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until time of services at 11:00 at Printy Funeral Home in Hamilton.  Memorials may be directed to the Faith Assembly of God Church in Hamilton.  Printy Funeral Home of Hamilton is in charge of arrangements.
