Dorothy Joan Sherrill of Hamilton, Illinois, age 93, passed away on August 29, 2023, at River Hills Village, in Keokuk, Iowa.

She was born July 21, 1930, in Keokuk, Iowa. Dorothy was the daughter of Paul and Lucile Harsch of Nauvoo, Illinois.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Christ Lutheran Church in Nauvoo, Illinois. Dorothy graduated from Nauvoo High School. She won several awards locally and at state music contests as a soprano, and she was also a member of a Minstrel Troupe. She excelled in school and was a member of the Nauvoo Grape Festival Queen’s Court.

Dorothy married Homer L. Sherrill of Hamilton, Illinois on October 17, 1948, at the Christ Lutheran Church in Nauvoo, Illinois.

Dorothy worked at Sheaffer Pens in Fort Madison, Iowa until the birth of her first child, at which time she transitioned from an office worker to a wonderful mother and homemaker.

From her childhood through her adult life, Dorothy was an amazing caretaker and chef extraordinaire. Her love and kindness were beyond measure.

For everyone who has had the privilege and honor to know her, her spirit has had a lasting effect on their lives. She will be sorely missed.

Dorothy is survived by her first son Neal L. Sherrill and his wife, Patti (Grand Junction, Colorado) with 3 grandchildren: Carrie Bechtel (nee Sherrill); Andrew Sherrill; Adrian Sherrill, and 8 great grandchildren: Nolan Sherrill, Michael Bechtel, Camden Sherrill, Jonah Sherrill, Jada Sherrill, Grant Bechtel, Annabel Sherrill, and Jake Sherrill:

By her second son James P. Sherrill and his wife, Rhonda (Morton, Illinois) with 1 grand child, Nicholas Sherrill and 2 great grandchildren: Owen Sherrill, and Mylo Sherrill

By her third son David J. Sherrill and his wife, Sharon (Bethalto, Illinois) with 3 grandchildren: Christopher Sherrill, Elizabeth Womble (nee Sherrill), and Logan Sherrill, and 3 great grandchildren: Joseph Sherrill, Abigail Sherrill, and Jacob Sherrill:

And by her daughter Connie Adams (nee Sherrill) (Fruita, Colorado) with 3 grandchildren: Victoria Gunyan (nee Gehle), Nathan Gehle, and Ellie Adams, and 4 great grandchildren: Palmer Gunyan, Rogan Gunyan, and Victoria (Tori) Gehle, and Connor Gehle.

The visitation for Dorothy J. Sherrill (nee Harsch) will be held on September 9, 2023, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Printy Funeral Home, 720 Main Street, Hamilton, Illinois.

The funeral service will be held on September 10, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Bethel Presbyterian Church, 1421 Broadway Street, Hamilton, Illinois.

The burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Hamilton, Illinois
