Dorothy Ann Ufkes, 97, of Golden, passed away at 11:04 PM, Monday evening, May 29, 2023, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

Dorothy was born November 10, 1925, the daughter of Louis and Mary (Fredericks) Reuschel in Golden.  On February 4, 1945, she was united in marriage to Albertus F. “Bert” Ufkes in Golden at the Trinity Lutheran Church.  He preceded her in death in 2008.  Dorothy worked over forty years as a CNA at the Golden Good Shepherd Home.  She continued her loving care for others there as a resident for the last four years.  She and her husband were instrumental in starting the Golden Good Shepherd Home in 1963 and she continued her support throughout her life. She was also a member of the Golden Historical Society.   Dorothy enjoyed gardening and canning and also flower gardening.  She shared these interests with her grandchildren. She was an excellent cook and was known for her cinnamon rolls and rhubarb cake.  

Dorothy is survived by five children, Maxine Lewis of Leominster, MA; Steve Ufkes of Bowen, Laura (Jim) Petty of Rock Falls, Bruce (Brenda) Ufkes of Bowen and Julie (David) Bean of Golden; grandchildren, Scott (Michelle) Lewis, Jennifer (Kevin) Taylor, Mike (Janice) Petty, Kelly (Andy) Upham, Matt (Nicole) Petty, Josh (Lindsay) Petty, Samantha (Jay) Petty, Jessica (Jason) Brouwer, Jared (Analisa) Bean, Justin (Karisa) Bean, Janelle Bean, Josiah (Liz) Bean, Joanna Bean and Jonathan (Beth Ann) Bean;  many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and one brother, Louis Reuschel of Golden.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; five sisters, Esther Buss(Benhard), Leta Post (Clarence), Mary Haschemeyer(Ernest), Ruth Ideus(Irwin), Elda Gronewold(Arnold); three brothers, Henry Reuschel(Arlene), George Reuschel((Geneva), Ben Reuschel(Cathy)and one sister -in-law Isabel Reuschel.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 PM Sunday, June 4, 2023, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Golden with burial to follow in Golden Memorial Gardens.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Golden Saturday evening.  Memorials may be directed to the Golden Good Shepherd Home or Immanuel Lutheran Church, both in Golden.  Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of the arrangements.
