Clyde Douglas “Doug” Nickel

1953 – 2023

 

     Clyde Douglas “Doug” Nickel, 70, of Keokuk, IA, died Saturday May 13, 2023 at his home.

     He was born on January 13, 1953 in Keokuk, IA, the son of Clyde E. and Hila (Kirkpatrick) Nickel.  He graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1971.  Doug received his Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from the University of Iowa in 1975.

     On June 17, 1978, Doug married the love of his life, Cindy Ruffcorn, at the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk.  She survives.

    He is also survived by one daughter, Ginna Fuller of Keokuk, two sons, Jerrad Nickel and his wife Beth of Danville, and Jacob Nickel and his wife Mary Jo of Cedar Rapids, five grandchildren, Brennan Fuller, Jillian and Leah Nickel, Karsyn and Austin Nickel.  Doug was an honorary grandfather to KJ and Kaden Skow.  Other survivors include one brother, Dart Nickel  of  Keokuk, in-laws; Kenneth and Dalene Ruffcorn, Jerry and Cindy Ruffcorn, Bob and Kerri Ruffcorn, Jim Ruffcorn, Debbie and Scott Blunt, Melissa and Darren Skow, many loving nieces and nephews and many special friends.

     He was preceded in death by his parents.

     Doug was a member of the First Christian Church in Keokuk, the Keokuk Elks Lodge and the Keokuk Yacht Club.

     Doug was an avid bowler and in his younger years enjoyed slow-pitch softball.  He was an Iowa Hawkeye and St. Louis Cardinal fan.  The greatest joy in his life was his family, many of whom referred to him affectionately as “Dougie”.  He loved spending time with his grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

     He had been employed as the general manager of the Hub-Co Credit Union in Keokuk for forty-two years, retiring in December 2017. After retirement, Doug and Cindy enjoyed traveling with family and friends. 

     Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Dr. Corey Bennett officiating. 

     Visitation will be held after 3 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home with the family meeting with friends from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

    Memorials may be made to the Keokuk Little League or the City of Christmas.
