Thomas Ray “Tom” North

1946-2023

 

     Thomas Ray “Tom” North, 76 of Hamilton, IL died Monday, May 1, 2023 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.

     He was born October 1, 1946 in Keokuk, IA the son of Harold “Doc” and Elise Monroe North.  Tom graduated from New London High School in New London, IA with the class of 1964.

     Tom was a veteran of the United States Army.  He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War and was awarded a Purple Heart Medal.

     On March 30, 1968 Tom was united in marriage to Ann Whalen at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Keokuk.  She survives.

     Other survivors include one daughter, Tracey Lamm of Burlington, IA, one son, Brandon North (Sheryl Goodhue) of Ankeny, IA, five grandchildren, Ethan Lamm, Katlyn North, Raeann Lamm, Abby North and Olivia North and one great-grandchild, Brielle.  He is also survived by one sister, Jane Glasgow (Dan) of Keokuk.

     He was preceded in death by his parents and one son-in-law, Mike Lamm.

     Tom had been employed by IBEW Local 13 as an electrician for fifty-eight years, retiring in 2012.

     He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hamilton.

     Tom enjoyed spending time outdoors boating, scuba diving and golfing.  He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye, Chicago Cub and Green Bay Packer fan.  Tom’s grandchildren were his pride and joy.  He loved to watch them grow and was an enthusiastic fan of all their activities.

      A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m., Monday at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hamilton, IL with Father Tony Trosely officiating.  Burial with military rites will be in the Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk, IA will be rendered by the American Legion Post #41 Honor Guard and United States Army Honor Guard.

     Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Sunday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with family meeting with friends at that time.  A rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or to Wreath’s Across America.
