David “Eric” Johnson

1941-2023

 

     David “Eric” Johnson, 81 of Burlington, IA formerly of Keokuk, IA died Monday, April 10, 2023 at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington, IA. 

     He was born August 15, 1941 in Keokuk, IA the son of Howard Lee and Betty Jean Ellis Johnson.  Eric graduated from Keokuk High School with the class of 1960.  He then furthered his education at the University Of Iowa College Of Pharmacy in Iowa City, IA and graduated with the class of 1965 with a degree of Pharmacology.

     Eric was first united in marriage to Katie Riter on August 16, 1963.  They later divorced.  On September 28, 1986 Eric was united in marriage to Doris Frick Mosley in Burlington, IA. 

     He is survived by his wife, Doris Mosley Johnson of Burlington, IA, one son, Jeff Johnson (Christy) of Aylett, VA, one daughter, Jenny Ross (Jamie) of Kahoka, MO, four step-children, Dr. Debbie Mosley-Nelson (Phil), Lisa Mosley and Ted Mosley (Heather) all of Burlington, IA and Dory Stevens (Sean) of Urbandale, IA, sixteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren including a special great-granddaughter, Mikayla, whom they raised.  He is also survived by his sister, Christine Wallace (James) of Mason City, IA and his brother, Paul Johnson of Cunningham, KS.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Mark Emil Johnson in infancy and Philip George Johnson and step-daughter, Deanna Mosley.

     Eric had been employed as a pharmacist at J&S Pharmacy, which he later owned, and Delperdang Pharmacy, both in Keokuk.  He then worked at Walgreens in Burlington until his retirement. 

     He was a member of Trout Unlimited and was of the Baptist faith.

     Eric enjoyed race cars and was an avid NASCAR fan.  He had a heart for caring for others and taught swimming lessons to handicapped children every summer.  Eric loved fly fishing and hand tied his own flies.  Eric also enjoyed horses, wine making and later in life he found his passion in drawing.

    Visitation will be held prior to the service, Saturday, from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home with family meeting with friends at that time.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA.  Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk.

   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a memorial bench in a local park or to the Special Olympics or to PAW Fort Madison Animal Shelter.
