Paul Richard Haas, 69, of Nauvoo, Illinois, passed away at 2:21 a.m. Friday, April 7, 2023, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in Fort Madison, Iowa.

 

Paul was born April 13, 1953, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Roy and Frieda (Wilkens) Haas. He married Connie Hopp in 1977. They later divorced.

 

He is survived by his four children: Kristy (Geoff) Wellman of Burlington, Iowa, Laura (Brandan) Beach of Dallas City, Illinois, Larry (Ashley) Haas of Wever, Iowa, and Danny Haas of Keokuk; eight grandchildren: Kenzie Sprute, Raegan Wellman, Braylan Wellman, Enslee Wellman, Nick Schaefer, Carson Schaefer, Owen Beach and Madelyn Thomas; four siblings: Edward Lee (Rebecca) Haas of Nauvoo, Deborah Jones of Springfield, Illinois, Diane Shoen of Moweaqua, Illinois, and Kevin (Laura) Haas of Hudson, Illinois. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother: Larry and brother in-law: Jeff Shoen.

 

Paul was a 1971 graduate of Nauvoo High School. He worked for the Colusa Elevator, Nauvoo, Illinois, for 44 years, retiring in 2019. He enjoyed being outside and took great pride in his yard and garden. He enjoyed deer and mushroom hunting and he raised Birmingham roller pigeons for many years. He was an avid sports fan, especially for the St. Louis Cardinals.

 

Friends may call after 12:00 noon, Tuesday, April 11, 2023,  at Schmitz-Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Nauvoo, with family receiving friends  from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A parish rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Nauvoo with Father Tony Trosley as celebrant. Burial will follow in Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery.

 

A memorial has been established in his memory for Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church.
