Melvin Land

1927-2023

 

     Melvin Land, 95 of Keokuk, IA died Sunday, April 2, 2023 at River Hills Village in Keokuk, IA.

     He was born August 10, 1927 the son of Thomas and Veda Fickel Land.  Melvin graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1946.

     He was a veteran of the United States Army and proudly served from 1946-1948.

     Melvin was first united in marriage to Mary Kay.  The later divorced.  He later was united in marriage to Mary Queisner on March 8, 1989 in Montrose, IA.  She preceded him in death on January 31, 2018.

     Melvin was a member of the Keokuk Elks Lodge.  

     He loved spending time outdoors.  He enjoyed golfing, boating and riding his motorcycle.  Melvin also enjoyed to travel and was always ready to take off on an adventure.  He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and St. Louis Cardinal fan.

     He is survived by two sons, Bill Land of Lafayette, LA and Steve Land (Denise) of Keokuk, two step-sons, David Heiser (Connie) of Pulaski, IA and Fred Heiser of Urbandale, IA and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

     Besides his wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Debbie Land and Janice Van Ginkle, one son, Chuck Land and five siblings, Thomas Land, Charles Land, Edward Land, Robert Land and Deanie Miller.

     A Gathering of Remembrance will be held from 6 – 8 p.m., Thursday, at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with family meeting with friends at that time.  Burial will be at a later date.

     Memorials may be made to the Keokuk Elks Lodge.
