1938 – 2023

 

      Grace Ann Edmiston, 84, of Keokuk, IA died Friday, March 24th, 2023, at Mississippi Valley Healthcare in Keokuk, IA.
     She was born October 5th, 1938, in Keokuk, IA the daughter of James Edmiston and Clara Allen Edmiston. Grace Ann had one son Kent Michael Edmiston. She graduated from Keokuk High School with the class of 1957.

      Grace was a lifelong resident of Keokuk where she worked at the South Lee County Courthouse before retiring in 1999. She was active in her community helping with the Civil War reenactment and Pancake Days. She was a huge advocate for woman’s rights being a member of Business and Professional Woman for over 30 years. She held many positions on state and local levels, traveling all over the country representing the organization. She received The Woman of the Year award in 1998 and Woman of Achievement in 2004. She served on the board for United Way and was a member of First Christian Church.

     Family was just as important to Grace as her civil work. She continued her Mother’s tradition of Sunday dinners, which her family enjoyed each week. She would take her grandchildren on trips to Kansas City and Adventureland in the summers. She was a huge part of each of their lives as she helped raise them. Grace Ann was a fighter; she had overcome many illnesses over the years and fought hard to stay with us until the very end.

     She is survived by five grandchildren, Danielle Keefe of Keokuk, IA, Cyndi Edmiston of Channahon, IL, Troy Edmiston (Hope) of Wayland, MO, Samantha Edmiston of Coral Springs, FL, Shanna Burton (Will) of Anamosa, IA, six great-grandchildren, Elijah Gibson, Miley Edmiston, Ryder Keefe, Chandler Edmiston, Harper Edmiston and Thea Matlick.   Grace is also survived by one brother, Jim (Marilyn) Edmiston of Bountiful, UT, one niece Beth Edmiston of Salt Lake City, UT, one nephew Sevya Edmiston of Idaho Falls, ID.

     She was preceded in death by both her parents, her son Kent Edmiston, her grandson Brett Edmiston, and goddaughter Mindy Hagerty.

     Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Rev. David Turner officiating.   Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery, Keokuk, IA.

     Visitation will be held prior to the service on Tuesday from 12 noon until 2 pm at the funeral home with family meeting with friends at that time.

     In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the United Way of the Great River Region.
