Shirley J. Case

1937 -2023

 

     Shirley J. Case, 86 of Argyle, IA died Monday, March 6, 2023 at her home.

     She was born March 2, 1937 in Farmington, IA the daughter of Wayne and Neva Cappelman Johnson.  Shirley graduated from Argyle Community School with the class of 1956.

     On August 16, 1966 Shirley was united in marriage to Allan Case. He survives.

     Other survivors include his children, Rick Derr (Kandy) of Montrose, IA, Dean Derr (Susan) of Keokuk, Danny Derr (Lynn) of Keokuk, Shari Burdette (Jim) of Argyle, IA and Duane Case (Tracy) of Argyle, IA, thirteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. 

     She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Pearl Severin and Iris Johnson and two brothers, Don Johnson and Carl Johnson.

     Shirley was of the Catholic faith.

     She was a devoted mother and homemaker who greatly enjoyed caring for her family.  Shirley enjoyed spending time with her husband while he was fishing and going for car rides together to see the wildlife and scenery.  Shirley also enjoyed sitting next to her window and watching the deer and birds outside, especially the hummingbirds.  She loved to cook and made wonderful meals for her family.  She grew a large vegetable garden every year and spent hours canning tomatoes and vegetables that she had grown.

     A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Father Joe Roost officiating.  Burial will be in the Oakland Sand Cemetery in Vincennes, IA.

     Visitation will be held after 1 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home with family meeting with friends from 5-7 p.m.
