Leonida C. “Nida” Daw

1946 – 2023

 

     Leonida C. “Nida” Daw, 76, of Montrose, IA, died Sunday, March 5, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in Fort Madison, IA.

     She was born on April 10, 1946, in Malolos, Bulacan Philippines, the daughter of Segundo and Encarnacion (Cabral) Castro.   Nida attended school in the Philippines and then received her Associates Degree from Southeastern Community College in Keokuk.

      On August 9, 1980, Nida was united in marriage to James Daw in Alexandria, MO.  He survives.

     She is also survived by three daughters, Lynn Corns (Chuck) of Waukee, IA, Melissa “Lisa” Harper (Jeff) of Edinburg, TX, Josefina Foreman (James) of Fairfield, IA, one son, Aries Daw (Aimee) of National City, CA, two step-sons, Jim Daw, Jr. of Montrose, IA and Eric Daw (Kelly) of Madison, AL, two step-daughters, Kathy Ashworth (John) and Karen Colvin (Chuck) both of Keokuk, fifteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren with one more due in July and six great-great grandchildren.  Other survivors include one sister, Julieta Boquiren of San Diego, CA, numerous nieces and nephews, two brothers-in-law, John Daw, Jr. (Mary) and Colin “Spike” Daw (Mary), and two sisters-in-law, Jean Pezley (Roger) and Kay Williams (Ron).

     She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Milagros Alcazar, Marcelina Aclaro and Carmen Lipumano, one brother in infancy, her mother-in-law and father-in-law, John Daw, Sr. and Phoebe Daw, one daughter-in-law, Meutiah “Tia” Daw and one son-in-law, Steve Dye.

     She had been employed at Armor Dial in Fort Madison for thirty-two years and retired in 2004.  Following her retirement, she worked at Hy-Vee in Keokuk for thirteen years.

     She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Montrose.

     Nida enjoyed traveling worldwide and touring with her husband in their Model-T.  She loved to crochet and every one of her grandchildren have been blessed with one of her beautiful blankets. Watching game shows on television, especially Wheel of Fortune, was one of her favorite pastimes.  Most of all Nida cherished spending time with her family.  She enjoyed family get-togethers and attending all of her grandchildren’s events.

     A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Monday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Montrose with Father John Stack officiating.  Burial will be in the Montrose Cemetery.

     Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4 – 6 p.m. at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with family meeting with friends at that time.  A Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. on Sunday.

       Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
