Loren Paul Schulz, 74, of Carthage, passed away Saturday, February 18, 2023, at Memorial Hospital in
Carthage.
Loren was born May 8, 1948, the son of Paul W. Schulz and Irene (Hobart) Schulz in Chicago, Illinois. He
graduated from Carthage High School in 1966. On April 22, 1981, he was united in marriage to Connie
Ruhs at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Carthage. Loren was a long-time tax accountant in Carthage
retiring in 2012. He was a lifelong member of the Trinity Lutheran Church where he was the financial
secretary for over 30 years, served as the President of the Carthage Area Chamber of Commerce, and
belonged to the Independent Accountant Association of Illinois. Loren loved to bowl but really looked
forward to the after bowling get togethers. He spent time playing golf with the Carthage men’s league
and slow pitch softball. He was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed rooting for the Atlanta Braves and
Chicago Bears. Whether it was sports, music or any other activity they were involved in, Loren loved
spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Loren enjoyed family vacations,
fish fries, auctions, and collecting many things.
Loren is survived by his wife Connie; his children, Carrie (Tadd) Markham of Orlando, Florida, Kyle Schulz
of Carthage, Robin Young of Carthage, Ronda Ruhs of Rock Port, Texas, and Randal Ruhs of Annandale,
Virginia; his brother Donald (Rachel) Schulz of Arizona; his grandchildren, Alexis Markham, Erin
Markham, Gavyn Markham, Alyssa Young, Jeffery Pohren, Emily (Terrel) Hawkins, and Jessica (Eduardo)
Hernandez-Ruhs; great grandchildren, Ayden, Kyen, Devina, Liam, Alaina, and Zahra; and several nieces,
nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a baby daughter Deanna, and a brother Ron Schulz.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM-8:00 PM, Thursday February 23, 2023, at the Printy Funeral Home in
Carthage. Funeral services will be held at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Carthage on Friday, February
24, 2023, at 10:00 AM. Memorials may be directed to Illinois Special Olympics. Printy Funeral Home of
Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
