Alfred Elwin “Butch” Hempen, 66, of Elvaston, passed away at 6:45 PM Friday, January 13, 2023, at the Macomb Post-Acute Care Center in Macomb. 

Butch was born June 29, 1956, the son of William and Evelyn (Simon) Hempen in Carthage, Illinois.  Butch graduated from Hamilton High School and worked as a mechanic, carpenter, roofer, and handyman in the area.  He loved kids, fishing, tinkering, and watching the price is right. 

Butch is survived by his mother, Evelyn Hempen of Elvaston; a brother, Michael Hempen of Donnellson; his sister, Victoria Levsen of Davenport, Iowa; nephews, Chris and Eric Hempen, and Dustin, Brandon, and Cody Svejda; nieces, Michelle Hempen, Sherry Coffey, Shelly Karriker; and several great and great great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, William; and three brothers, Billy, Steve, and Terry.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  Printy Funeral Home of Hamilton is in charge of arrangements.
