David Michael Walsh

David Michael Walsh

1952 – 2022

David Michael Walsh, 70, of Keokuk, IA, died Sunday, December 25, 2022 in Carthage, IL.

He was born on August 3, 1952 in St. Louis, MO, the son of David J. and Roberta Jean Bruning Walsh.  He graduated from Christian Brothers College High School in St. Louis with the Class of 1970.  He received a Double Bachelor’s degree from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, MO where he played football as a defensive end. David was inducted into Northwest Missouri State M-Club Hall of Fame in 1993.

He married Carol A. Stupfell in 1973 in Council Bluffs, IA. From that union they had a son D.J. and two daughters, Ruth Ann and Bridget. They later divorced after 31 years of marriage.

David had been employed as the International Purchasing Director for Methode in Carthage for nineteen years and most recently at Roquette America for nine years, retiring in April of 2022.

He was a member of New Testament Christian Church in Keokuk since 1991.

David enjoyed the "hunt" for a good deal and lived to find homes that needed a full remodel.  He was coined the "Demo King" and couldn't wait to get into those houses and rip out walls, kitchens, and baths.  He was a skilled woodworker and loved to restore wooden boats and refinish antique furniture. He was also an avid coin collector.

Most of all, David enjoyed spending time with his family and his grandchildren were the highlight of his life.

He is survived by one son, D.J. Walsh (Amanda Balmer-Walsh) of Boutte, LA, two daughters, Ruth Ann Walsh (Chris Neiderschulte) of Galveston, TX and Bridget Crose (Zelton) of Camp Point, IL, three grandchildren, Alivia Walsh, and Cooper and Josie Crose.  He is also survived by one sister, Kate Oakes (Bill) of Libertyville, IL, two brothers, Kevin Walsh and Jim Walsh both of WA and two nieces, Sabel Siemenstab and Kaelyn McKinnon (Bryan).

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Tim Walsh.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

The Vigen Memorial Home of Keokuk is assisting the family with arrangements.
