John Gabriel Anderson

1938-2022

 

     John Gabriel Anderson, 84, of Keokuk, IA died Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka, MO.

     He was born June 10, 1938 in Keokuk, IA the son of Gabriel and Gladys Anderson.

     John was a veteran of the United States Army and proudly served his country from 1955-1959.

     On April 16, 1959 he was united in marriage to Sandra Erlene Reeves in Elizabeth City, N.C.  She preceded him in death on April 7, 2009.

     He had been employed by several local businesses through the years, including Best Construction, Illiamo-Samons Construction, Seither & Cherry and Hickey Construction, Mears Super Value, Paetz and Denholms.  Most recently, he had been employed by State Central Bank, from 2000-2012 as the maintenance consultant. 

     John was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Keokuk.  He was also a member of Art Ryan’s Gun Club in Keokuk and Blue Wing in Ft. Madison, IA.

     He was an outdoorsman and especially enjoyed fishing, pheasant hunting and trap shooting.   John was an enthusiastic fan of his son’s motor cross racing.  He was a member of the Swing Easy Dance Club and enjoyed square dancing with his wife.

     John is survived by one daughter, Christina Shoup (Danny) of Williamstown, MO, one son, John Anderson, Jr. of Argyle, IA, five grandchildren, Brandon Sartorius (Anna), Gabriel Shoup, Cassandra Shoup, Shelbi Anderson and Gage Anderson and three great-grandchildren, Eathan, Natalie and Lorelei.  He is also survived by three sisters, Elaine “Toots” Draines of Macomb, IL, Anna Marie Goetz of Palmyra, MO and Risa Langedahl of Keokuk and two brothers, William “Bill” Anderson and Don Anderson both of Keokuk.

     Besides his wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents, one sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Ronnie Mason and two brothers, Arthur Anderson and Daniel Anderson.

     Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Wednesday, December 28 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Pastor Shawn McAfee officiating.  Burial with military rites will be in the Keokuk National Cemetery.

     Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 am – 12 noon with the family meeting with friends at that time.

     Memorials may be made to the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka, MO.
